Costco Worker Murders Coworker in Devastating Incident

Prosecutors in King County have charged a warehouse employee with second-degree murder following a deadly collision on July 31, 2026, in which authorities say the suspect used his car as a weapon to kill a fellow worker over romantic jealousy. Tyler Sorensen, 22, rammed his vehicle into Jonathon Langdon’s motorcycle after witnessing the 20-year-old victim hug a woman Sorensen falsely claimed to be dating.

Sorensen appeared Thursday, August 6, for arraignment where he entered a not guilty plea. A judge ordered bail set at $2 million and barred the accused from reaching out to the victim’s relatives, the woman at the center of the dispute, or witnesses who saw the fatal hit-and-run.

Surveillance Captured the Fatal Impact

Video from cameras in Issaquah, Wash., recorded the sequence of events around 9 p.m. local time. According to court filings, Sorensen’s sedan crossed traffic lanes and slammed into Langdon’s bike, launching the rider through the air. Despite wearing a helmet, Langdon struck a metal signpost with such force that his body wrapped around the pole before he fell to the pavement face down. Emergency responders tried to save him, but the 20-year-old Costco employee was pronounced dead at the scene, the Issaquah Police Department (IPD) said.

The woman Sorensen told officers was his ex-girlfriend denied they had ever been romantically involved, detectives said. She informed investigators that she had repeatedly told Sorensen he was violating her personal boundaries.

Text Messages Revealed Escalating Rage

Before the crash, Sorensen allegedly photographed Langdon and the woman embracing and forwarded the image to friends. In accompanying messages, he insisted she had always described Langdon as merely a friend, prosecutors allege. He also wrote that his blood was boiling.

Minutes after the impact, Sorensen sent another message to friends reading “I f—ed up bad.”

Charging documents describe deliberate actions that undermine claims of impulse. Prosecutors allege Sorensen nearly hit both Langdon and the female coworker while still in the Costco parking lot, then waited approximately 10 minutes before trailing Langdon onto the roadway — a pause that suggests premeditation rather than a split-second decision.

Contradictory Statements to Police

During interviews, Sorensen gave conflicting explanations but ultimately conceded the strike was intentional, the IPD said. He told detectives, “It was stupid but I, I was, I meant to do it.” He also claimed he “didn’t mean to hit” Langdon and only wanted to “spook him,” ABC News reported.

After striking Langdon, Sorensen drove away from the scene and headed home, stopping briefly to examine damage to his own car, according to prosecutors. In an extraordinary twist, an officer pulled him over for speeding shortly afterward and issued him a traffic ticket — unaware authorities were already investigating a deadly hit-and-run just miles away.

Sorensen did not contact police on his own. Prosecutors say his father discovered what happened and drove him back to the crash site roughly an hour later, where Sorensen surrendered to waiting officers.

He remains in custody at the King County Jail. The judge who set bail also imposed a no-contact order covering Langdon’s family, the female Costco worker, and anyone who witnessed the collision. Sorensen is scheduled to return to court August 27. No attorney of record has been identified for him at this time.

The surveillance footage continues to serve as critical evidence. The IPD said the video depicts Sorensen’s car colliding with Langdon’s bike, an impact that resulted in the motorcyclist’s death — an account that aligns with Sorensen’s own statements acknowledging he acted with intent.

For Langdon, an ordinary evening shift ended in tragedy when a coworker’s fixation and fury turned a parking lot departure into a fatal pursuit. The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is now moving forward with a single count of second-degree murder.
