Brooke Gomez, a renowned New York City interior designer known for her collaborations with celebrities such as Bethenny Frankel, Michael J. Fox, and Sigourney Weaver, was found dead in her Upper East Side apartment in Manhattan, New York, on November 19, 2023.
Gomez, 49, was discovered after not being heard from for over a week. The New York City Police Department responded to a 911 call around 8:01 pm and found her unconscious and unresponsive. Despite the emergency medical services’ attempts at revival, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of Gomez’s death was determined to be chronic alcohol use, as stated by the Medical Examiner’s Office. The circumstances of her death are not considered suspicious by law enforcement, and there is no suggestion of criminal activity involved.
Gomez’s career in interior design spanned over two decades, beginning at her mother’s firm, Gomez Associates, in 2001. She later founded her own firm, Brooke Gomez Design, in 2019, gaining prominence for her distinctive style and high-profile clientele. Her work was not only appreciated in the private sector but also featured on reality TV, showcasing her collaboration with Frankel.
Authorities say that Gomez’s dog, a Brussels Griffon named Edie, survived alone in the apartment for a week following Gomez’s death. The dog was found alive, having survived without being given food, and has since been adopted by the building superintendent’s wife.
The interior design community and Gomez’s clients have expressed their condolences and shared memories of her work and impact. Her company took to Instagram to share a statement about her passing, describing her as a “bright light who shined on everyone who knew her.” Plans for a gathering to celebrate her life have been announced by her team.
