Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Slammed by Neighbor

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are “genuinely upset” by the dispute over their lakefront mansion outside Cleveland, Ohio, and could sell the place if the friction is not resolved, a source said Oct. 12, 2026.

The source said, “It’s hard to feel welcome when this sort of sentiment is being expressed in the community and by people living right next door.”

The same source said, “But if it can’t be resolved and it turns out people are just intent on being hateful towards them, it’s conceivable that they’d give up and sell the place,” adding, “They are looking to raise their family here, so the hope is that this ugly start isn’t going to be the whole story.”

The Bratenahl Architectural Review Board approved landscaping in front of the estate on Tuesday, Oct. 6, but put the rear-yard tree plan on hold over a dispute about how tall the plantings would grow. The board also picked up a pile of grievances at the meeting.

The board is scheduled to take up a revised landscape plan Tuesday, Nov. 10, and members said they hope to finalize it then.

50 Evergreens on a Sewer Line

Katherine Bolton raised the sharpest objection at the Oct. 6 meeting. She has lived next door for more than three decades and shares a 115-year-old sewer line with the property.

Bolton told the board that roughly 50 evergreens planted close to that line would eventually ruin it. She said she has been quoted $75,000 to line the aging pipe against roots.

Bolton asked the board, “What am I going to do when I have 50 evergreen trees on my sewer line, and they’re gone?”

Bolton said the problem is being worked through with the couple’s attorney. She raised the possibility that the owner could sell and buy somewhere else within the year, while she remains in the village. Bolton said she is not against the trees at all and wants a neighborly fix that spares the sewer.

Fence Scaled Back From 8 Feet

The same board unanimously approved a 6-foot black powder-coated aluminum fence in early September, over neighbor objections. Conditions attached to the Sept. 8 approval, not previously reported, require the structure to resemble a fence on Ingall Brook Lane, with matching gates and a height lined up with existing stone walls along Lake Shore Boulevard.

The fence will run about 1,190 feet once built, sit 2 feet inside the property line and include two gates for access to manholes serving the shared sewer line.

A meeting transcript shows the barrier was already scaled back, from an 8-foot fence ringing the whole property to a 6-foot version stopping short of Lake Erie. Local rules cap lakefront fences at 2.5 feet unless they are at least 75 percent see-through.

Bolton called the new owners a “tremendous blow” to the village’s “peace and quiet” at that meeting, and described an “absentee owner.”

Chuck Bauernschmidt lives two doors down and says he has been in Bratenahl for 47 years. He objects to vegetation being cleared on the property and says he is simply trying to protect his own place. “I take offense when we start knocking trees down,” he said.

Neighbors raised the prospect of deer, plentiful in the area, impaled on the fence posts.

$7,500 Repair and a New Gate

Jacob Kutz of Tiny Construction LLC, the couple’s planner, told the board the pair are after privacy and security, following one of the largest home sales in Cuyahoga County. He listed gestures the couple made, including having the sewage line jetted and cleaned without being asked, and adding a gate for Bauernschmidt, who had felt closed off.

Patrick Hyland, the property’s house manager, told the board that representatives paid $7,500 to repair a damaged section of the shared sewer line and arranged cleaning. That account was reported Oct. 13 from the Sept. 8 board meeting.

The firm said there had been confusion about the tree restrictions, that it is now aware of the 10-foot limit and that it is willing to adjust and follow the law.

A source said the couple “have already paid for all sorts of work that might normally be split between the neighbors,” and “knowing Taylor, she’ll gladly pay for anything else that the neighbors might need as a result of the trees they are adding to their property because that seems to be the concern.”

Village solicitor Dave Matty said the setback line applies to anything behind the home, and that landscaping has to meet a mature-height limit. He said the entire front setback has approval. One board member said privacy and screening are achievable with plants under 10 feet. Another said the team presented a screening plan rather than a full landscape plan.

Mayor Keith Benjamin has said the village is used to high-profile residents and welcomes Swift and Kelce. Not everyone in the village is grumbling.

The Moyenage Sold for $5.35 Million

An LLC linked to Kelce, 37, bought the Tudor-style mansion known as The Moyenage in March for $5.35 million, below the most recent asking price of $5.99 million. The house covers roughly 21,000 square feet on 3.5 acres along Lake Erie, with eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms.

Kelce grew up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Swift, 36, married Kelce on July 3.

Bratenahl is used to boldface names. Browns owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam live in the village, and former Cavaliers Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson have owned property there.

Security has been a running theme for the couple. Swift obtained a restraining order in 2025 against Brian Jason Wagner, a man accused of repeatedly showing up at her Los Angeles homes. A September report described a warning system at the house that gives a voice warning to anyone who gets too close.
