Authorities have confirmed the discovery of a body in the sea near Cornwall, England’s coast during the search for Alexander Key, the significant other of Mick Jagger’s granddaughter.
The body was found in the sea at Bude around 6:30 p.m. on January 31, 2026, prompting the response of officers and HM Coastguard. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to reports.
While formal identification has yet to be conducted, Devon & Cornwall Police suspect the deceased to be 37-year-old Alexander Key, who was reported missing since January 24, 2026. Key is the partner of Assisi Jackson, 33, granddaughter of the legendary Rolling Stones lead singer, Mick Jagger, 82.
The authorities clarified that the death is not under suspicion and a report will be compiled for the coroner. The police shared that “Mr Key’s family has thanked the police and HM Coastguard for their efforts, along with all those who assisted in the search for him,” and requested privacy during these challenging times.
Key and Jackson, who have two children together, were a part of the local community. Jackson is the daughter of Mick Jagger’s daughter, Jade Jagger, 54, a well-known British jewelry designer. Key, a chef by profession, co-owned The Rocket Store, a popular seafood restaurant in Boscastle, Cornwall, operating it with head chef Freddie Woodruff.
Key was last seen at the Cobweb Inn, a Boscastle pub, around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, January 23. CCTV footage later showed him at 3:25 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, walking past the Wellington Pub on Old Road, headed towards Boscastle Harbour and the River Valency.
Due to growing concerns for Key’s welfare, Devon & Cornwall Police initiated an urgent search. Jade Jagger amplified the police appeal on her Instagram, raising awareness among her followers.
Boscastle, a quaint coastal village in Cornwall renowned for its historic harbor and striking coastal views, sits at the junction of three valleys and is bordered by towering cliffs. The body’s discovery at Bude suggests a considerable distance from Key’s last known location in Boscastle.
Devon & Cornwall Police, who serve a vast area encompassing the counties of Devon and Cornwall, often collaborate with maritime agencies for sea-related incidents due to the extensive coastline within their jurisdiction. During the search efforts, a spokesperson expressed increasing concern for Key’s welfare, as reported.
The Jagger family has a deep-rooted connection to Britain’s cultural sphere. Mick Jagger, who founded the Rolling Stones, led one of history’s most influential rock groups. His daughter, Jade Jagger, has carved out her own niche as a jewelry designer, while her daughter, Assisi Jackson, represents the third generation of this illustrious family.
In England and Wales, even when deaths are not deemed suspicious, the police are required to conduct in-depth investigations and prepare comprehensive reports for the coroner’s inquest. This independent judicial inquiry aims to ascertain the deceased’s identity and the circumstances of their death.
The official identification process, especially in cases where the body has been in water, involves several steps to ensure accuracy.
