Missing Mother Located Dead in Hidden Vehicle

A motor vehicle crash in Miller County, Missouri, has claimed the life of Amanda Rodgers, a 35-year-old woman from Eldon, Missouri. Rodgers was missing for a week while on her way to pick up her children.

Rodgers was declared dead at 1:43 a.m. on Feb. 2, 2026, according to Coroner Caleb Shelton, putting an end to the search initiated after an Endangered Person Advisory was issued.

The mother of two left Eldon for the Camdenton area to collect her children on Monday, Jan. 26, but never arrived. This sparked a search by relatives and law enforcement.

An Endangered Person Advisory was issued for Rodgers by the Camden County Sheriff’s Office at around 3 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026. At the time of her disappearance, she was driving a 2003 tan Chevrolet Malibu.

A deputy from the Miller County Sheriff’s Office discovered the vehicle along U.S. 54 near Howser Road while actively searching the area. The crash site was in the Meads Flat region of Miller County, close to Montreal.

The Miller County Coroner’s Office said Rodgers’ car was obscured by a fallen tree, making it difficult to spot from the road. The vehicle skidded off the road after Rodgers failed to negotiate a curve, overturned, and ended up in a wooded area concealed by the tree.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol believes the accident happened around Jan. 26, which means the car had been off the road for about a week before being found. The patrol and the Miller County Coroner’s Office are investigating the crash.

Motor vehicle accidents on rural highways might go unnoticed for some time, especially when cars leave the road and are hidden by trees, brush, or terrain features. Highway 54, a key route through Miller County, requires careful handling, especially during winter conditions.

The incident appears to be an accident, and no foul play is suspected in Rodgers’ death. Even so, the investigation is ongoing, as required by Missouri law, to determine the cause and manner of death and to rule out any suspicious circumstances.

The Camden County Sheriff’s Office collaborated with the Miller County Sheriff’s Office in the search efforts. In missing person cases, it’s common for multiple law enforcement agencies to coordinate when the individual’s last known location and potential travel route span several jurisdictions.

Details of the fatal crash were released by the highway patrol after the discovery. The patrol’s crash reconstruction specialists examine various factors such as vehicle speed, road conditions, visibility, mechanical failures, and driver behavior to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to accidents.

“The Miller County Coroner’s Office extends its deepest condolences to Ms. Rodgers’ family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the officials stated.

Out of respect for the family, the office stated that no further details would be released, a common practice in death investigations, particularly in accidental death cases. This helps balance the need for public information with the privacy of the grieving family.

The investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Miller County Coroner’s Office continues as they strive to determine all contributing factors to the crash. The findings may guide future safety recommendations for the stretch of Highway 54 where the accident occurred.
