Football Star Found Dead in Dorm Room

On Monday, November 4, 2024, a football player from Saint Francis University, aged 18, was discovered dead in his dorm room at Giles Hall, Loretto, Pennsylvania, as confirmed by university officials.

The deceased, identified as Kevon Walker, was a freshman defensive lineman originally from Buffalo, New York. He was found unresponsive in his bed by his teammates, according to Cambria County Chief Deputy Coroner Joseph Hribar. There was no evidence suggesting foul play.

Walker’s teammates reported to the police that he had been “feeling ill” in the days prior to his demise. However, Hribar mentioned that the coroner’s office wasn’t in a position to confirm whether this was related to Walker’s death.

The investigation into Walker’s death is being conducted by the Pennsylvania State Police and the Cambria County Coroner’s Office. Toxicology and pathology reports are being awaited to ascertain the cause and circumstances surrounding his death.

The Saint Francis University Athletics department expressed their sorrow, saying, “Although his time at the university was short, he had a positive impact on the football program, was well-liked and respected among the team, and showed the promise of a very bright future with the Red Flash.”

The university, situated about 80 miles to the east of Pittsburgh, suspended classes on Tuesday to allow the students and staff to come to terms with the tragic news. Counseling services were arranged for those struggling to cope with Walker’s demise.

Walker’s death has sparked a wave of emotional tributes from his family, friends, and former mentors and teammates. Paul R. Woods Sr., Walker’s past football coach at Canisius High School in Buffalo, New York, expressed his deep sorrow on X, revealing how profoundly the news had affected him. He urged others to keep Walker’s family and the Canisius High School community in their thoughts and prayers, posting “R.I.P Kevon Walker… Love you kid” with a photo of Walker.

At Canisius High School, Walker was remembered as having a “larger-than-life presence.” During his short stint in college, Walker had achieved two tackles in three games for the Red Flash.

The Saint Francis Red Flash football team, having a record of 3-6, is taking a break this week and will resume their season with away games at Long Island and Mercyhurst starting from November 16.
