Two Killed, 28 Injured in July 4th Weekend Block Party

Two people were killed and 28 others were injured, including 14 minors, in a shooting incident that occurred during a block party in Baltimore on Sunday morning, June 2.

The shooting took place in the southern part of the city at around 12:30 am. The motive behind the attack is yet to be determined, as police are investigating whether it was a targeted or indiscriminate shooting. An 18 year old woman and a 20 year old man were killed at the event called “Brooklyn Day”.

Acting Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said that at least two people fired shots during the incident, but the exact number of shooters is still under investigation. Witnesses reported hearing 20 to 30 gunshots.

As of Sunday morning, three victims were in critical condition, though their status remains unknown. Police have established an extensive crime scene, with officers working diligently to gather evidence. Folding tables and plastic cups left behind by July 4th weekend partygoers fleeing from the gunfire were scattered throughout the area.

Eyewitnesses recounted the terrifying ordeal, with some initially mistaking the sound of gunfire for fireworks. However, it soon became apparent that the situation was far more serious. Residents ran for their lives, seeking safety and desperately trying to locate their loved ones. Some provided aid to the injured, even transporting victims to the hospital themselves.

In response to the incident, Mayor Brandon Scott condemned the shooting as a “reckless, cowardly act” that had devastating consequences for the victims and their families. He pledged that the perpetrators would be apprehended and brought to justice.

The shooting adds to the growing concern over violent crime in Baltimore. Law enforcement agencies, along with federal prosecutors, have intensified efforts to combat violent offenses and address the issue of repeat offenders.
