The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has revealed the cause of death for Lisa Marie Presley.
The 54-year-old star died due to complications arising from a small bowel obstruction. The medical examiner’s report states that the obstruction, which took the form of a strangulated small bowel, was caused by adhesions that developed after her bariatric surgery several years ago.
Deputy Medical Examiner Dr. Juan Carrillo noted that it is a known long-term complication of such surgeries.
Lisa Marie, renowned as a singer-songwriter and the sole daughter of the legendary Elvis and Priscilla Presley, died on January 12.
The period following Lisa Marie’s death witnessed considerable tension in her immediate family, as her mother Priscilla, 78, sought control of the late star’s trust. Priscilla aimed to place Lisa Marie’s daughter, Riley Keough, in charge, a move that created disagreements. Legal petitions were filed questioning the authenticity and validity of a 2016 trust amendment that excluded Priscilla as a co-trustee.
Despite the family disputes, those close to Lisa Marie assert that her wish was for her legacy to be carried on by her children. Joel Weinshaker, managing partner at Elvis Presley Enterprises, confirmed that she had made her intentions clear to Riley and her brother Benjamin Keough. Eventually, a settlement was reached in June, with Riley becoming the sole trustee of Lisa Marie’s estate.
The superstar’s death occurred two days after she attended the 2023 Golden Globe Award alongside her mother and actor Austin Butler.
Her memorial was held on January 22 at Graceland, where many paid their last respects to the star.
