Barron Trump ran a private dinner at Mar-a-Lago for 90 minutes in 2024, holding the table with stories, jokes and entertainment, according to the guests who were there.
Barron Trump, 20, is the son of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, and he has spent most of his life out of view. That dinner in Palm Beach, Fla., is still the fullest picture anyone outside the family has painted of him. He turned 18 in March of that year.
The guests revisited the evening on an episode of the “PBD Podcast” in April 2024. The longtime shorthand on Barron has cast him as the quiet one, shy and happiest in the background. The men at the table came away with a very different impression.
Barron Brought a Friend Along
Entrepreneur Patrick Bet-David, the founder of the media company Valuetainment, sat at the table, along with fellow guest Tom Ellsworth and actor and comedian Vincent Oshana. Adam Sosnick, a PBD Podcast co-host, was also listed among the guests. Barron brought along Bo Loudon, an internet personality and his friend.
Bet-David said he had never watched Ellsworth laugh that hard for that long. Oshana said he was struck by how easily the teenager held the room, and by his read on politics. Barron told the table that people are always going to fight, and that there is a left and there is a right.
Loud Music and an iPad
Midway through the meal, the music suddenly turned loud. Barron told the table that his father was the DJ. The guests said the president was working on his iPad, the screen lighting his face.
Oshana recalled what Barron said about his father’s taste for volume. “I’ll be in my room and the house is shaking,” Barron said.
Ellsworth said the candid family stories were what got him, with nothing snide and nothing crude in them. He described a kid talking about heading off to college, with plans that might shift because of his father’s job. Bet-David summed up the night: sharp, funny, sarcastic and tough.
A Gold Spoon, Not Silver
The biggest laughs came when the conversation turned to money. The guests traded stories about lean stretches in their own lives. Barron deadpanned that it had been rough for him too, because he was born in a penthouse at the top of a building. Other people had a silver spoon, he joked, while his was gold.
Kind and Polite, Grisham Says
Stephanie Grisham, a former White House press secretary who also served as Melania Trump’s chief of staff, told the Daily Mail: “I cannot stress enough how kind and polite Barron is.” Grisham described him as humble, empathetic and smart.
Melania Trump told Parenting magazine, when her son was about five, that he already knew his own mind. She said he had firm views and was perfectly clear about what he wanted. She later told Fox News that choosing a college in New York was his decision and that she respected it, and she said she did not feel like an empty nester.
Barron is the youngest of the president’s five children. Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump and Eric Trump are the president’s children from his marriage to Ivana Trump, and Tiffany Trump is his daughter from his marriage to Marla Maples. Donald and Melania Trump wed in 2005, and Barron was born in 2006.
Barron stands 6 feet 7 inches and towers over the president, who has spoken publicly about his son’s height. He makes few public appearances. He was photographed with his parents and his maternal grandfather, Viktor Knavs, at the funeral of Melania Trump’s mother, Amalija Knavs.
Barron enrolled at New York University’s Stern School of Business in 2024, the college chapter he mapped out aloud at that dinner. He spent his sophomore year at NYU’s Washington, D.C., campus. His junior year continues there.
