No wig, dye job or hairpiece has been confirmed by anyone, to be clear, and every claim of one amounts to speculation from people with a zoom lens and a keyboard.
Not on Anyone’s 2026 Bingo Card
X users moved at roughly the speed of a jet engine. “Trump becoming a brunette was definitely not on my 2026 bingo card,” one user wrote. Others went further, declaring the president a brunette outright; they floated the idea that brown had overtaken his usual shade and asked whether a color change was underway. Journalist Aaron Rupar posted about the hair on X as well, asking what in the world was going on up there.
Then Came the Red Hat
Internet personality Michael Solakiewicz put Instagram photos online of Trump golfing on Saturday, September 5, wearing a red hat that covered most of his hair. Anyone who wanted a clean second look the next day, in other words, was out of luck. The tarmac cameras started the argument; the golf course cameras were not going to end it.

Two Denials, Years Apart
The first denial is the classic. Trump has for years denied that anything on his head is artificial, insisting no toupee is involved and that the hair is entirely his own.
Remarks in the Rose Garden on Thursday, September 3, produced the second. “I don’t wear a wig,” he insisted, before offering what he considers proof: a wig, he argued, would not have survived the conditions at a windy 2024 campaign rally in Ohio. Trump biographer Michael Wolff has a claim of his own, made on the Daily Beast podcast “Inside Trump’s Head”: a small kit of hair tufts, dyed to match his shade of the moment, travels with the president and is stuck on with paste by a person Wolff did not identify. Trump’s first term is where Wolff traced the kit, and he called the upkeep a major, long-running operation. All of it runs up against one report from earlier this year. A senior staffer told New York Magazine in January that the president had stopped dyeing his hair and was letting it go white, a choice the staffer described as his “only concession to age.” That account points the opposite way from the darker shade photographed in Morristown, leaving two possibilities and no way to pick between them: he reversed course, or the lighting and the camera are doing more work than the speculation allows.
The White House, meanwhile, has defended the president’s health as “excellent” following his latest medical evaluation, amid scrutiny of bruising on his hands, swollen ankles and moments critics called sluggish — among them a video published August 31 showing Trump resting his eyes.
The Look Has Come and Gone Before
A surprise hairstyle has disappeared this fast before. Trump turned up at a Virginia church for a surprise visit in 2019 wearing a similarly slicked-back look, which set off the same kind of chatter; later that day it was gone.
