Reality television personality Amber Eggers died of acute liver failure at an Atlanta hospital on Thursday night, September 3, 2026. She was 41. Eggers had opened up her prison engagement to cameras during the second season of the WE tv series “Love After Lockup.”
Her mother, Monica Eggers, confirmed the death to TMZ and said Amber had returned to the hospital days earlier after feeling unwell. Doctors, she said, could not keep her daughter’s heart beating any longer, and Amber ultimately died of acute liver failure. She gave no further detail, and no medical examiner has issued a ruling; the cause remains a family account.
Word had already gone out overnight. Two reality-television Instagram accounts that follow the franchise, @merrypants and @kikiandkibbitz, posted the news hours before Monica Eggers spoke to TMZ. “There really isn’t a good way to say something like this,” the post read. “It doesn’t feel real, and I don’t think any words can make it feel real.” Amber, it said, had been admitted on Tuesday, September 1, with liver failure: “The doctors did everything they could, but in the end, her body just couldn’t keep fighting. And if you knew Amber, you know she is a fighter.”
A Year of Health Battles
Eggers had been seriously ill for more than a year. Her health began to fail in 2025, and that May her sister opened a GoFundMe page as the family’s medical costs piled up. “She was recently hospitalized with severe pneumonia and a bacterial infection in her blood, and her condition became critical. She was first put on a ventilator,” her sister wrote on the page; Amber was then moved onto an ECMO machine.
“Many of you know Amber is one of the kindest and most big-hearted people you could ever meet,” her sister wrote in the appeal. “Right now, she needs all of that strength for the fight of her life.”
Her sister posted better news on May 27, 2025. Amber had left intensive care and was on oxygen, she wrote; her lungs were still sick but improving day by day, and she had begun physical therapy to rebuild the strength in her legs so she could walk again. That was the last update the page carried, and it no longer resolves.
The 2025 emergency ran deeper than that first pneumonia diagnosis suggested. Her infection progressed into sepsis and multiple-organ failure, which put her on life support. She pulled through, went home and resumed her life in Georgia, managing Sidelines Grille in Canton, Ga.
The setbacks kept coming. Eggers disclosed a mini-stroke herself in a Facebook post dated August 5, about four weeks before her death, writing: “I just had that mini stroke and my bday. What better time th[an] the present.” She was recovering from it at home when the liver failure sent her back to the hospital.
Her Path to Reality TV
The hook of “Love After Lockup” is the first face-to-face meeting. Couples who have spent years on letters, phone calls and visiting-room dates with an incarcerated partner finally meet in person, and the cameras stay on to see whether the relationship can hold together once both people are on the outside.
Eggers came to the franchise in Season 2, which premiered on December 7, 2018; its original run of episodes ended the following March, while she was serving a four-year sentence for drug trafficking. Her partner, Vincent Gonzalez, proposed during that season, but the engagement did not last past her release from prison and the couple split.
Viewers kept seeing her regardless. Eggers and her former cellmate, Michelle “Puppy” Deaton, returned across later seasons of the show and on the spinoff “Life After Lockup,” including a 2022 run of episodes. Their bond became the center of the story; The Ashley’s Reality Roundup describes Deaton as Eggers’ friend and former girlfriend. “Whenever I didn’t love myself, Amber was there to love me,” Deaton said on the series. “I honestly don’t think I would have made it without Amber.”

WE tv and the show gave a joint statement to Page Six: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Amber Eggers, an original and unforgettable member of the Love After Lockup family. She was a bright light, who shared her life story with courage and authenticity, and we are honored to have been a part of her journey over several years. Our hearts are with her family and friends who held her close.”
Cast members added their own. “You were the sweetest person and had a personality that was as big as life,” wrote Lindsey Booker, a fellow alum of the show, adding that she could not believe Eggers was gone. Deaton stayed quiet for four days before breaking her silence on Monday, September 7, in a joint statement with Cacedra “Queen” Robertson, a friend, and Hank, an ex-boyfriend and longtime friend. “We are together during this incredibly difficult time, leaning on and supporting each other as we grieve our dear Amber’s passing,” it read in part. “We have seen all of the beautiful comments, memories and tributes being shared in her honor and we appreciate every single one.”
The Instagram post that announced the death called her a fighter who had already survived so much, and thanked her for being herself. Fans had laughed with her, worried over her and rooted for her through every trial she met, it said, and they would miss her. Two weeks on, no funeral, memorial or celebration of life has been announced, and nothing further has been said publicly since September 9.
