Authorities in Allegheny County are investigating after two toddlers, ages one and three, spent days alone in a Pennsylvania residence with the bodies of their mother and another adult, both of whom are believed to have died on July 31, 2026.
The discovery came on Monday, Aug. 3, when first responders entered a home on Franklin Avenue in Wilkinsburg, a borough just east of Pittsburgh. Inside, police found Lamara Baldwin, 31, and her former boyfriend Lamont Dunlap, 42, both deceased. Investigators determined the two little girls — Baldwin’s daughters — had been unattended for several days.
Social Media Messages Captured Baldwin’s Distress
Days before the tragedy, Baldwin broadcast a Facebook livestream in which she described feeling exhausted by deception.
“I’m just tired of being lied to. Never told the truth. I don’t know how much more I can take,” Baldwin said in the broadcast.
Detectives have not publicly connected her online remarks to any hypothesis regarding how the pair died. It remains unclear who last communicated with Baldwin and Dunlap or whether anyone requested a welfare check before the discovery.
Autopsies Ordered as Investigators Seek Answers
Neither Baldwin nor Dunlap showed outward evidence of injury, according to the Allegheny County Police Department. Autopsies are being performed by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office to establish how and why each person died. Without those findings, detectives say they cannot determine what caused the fatalities.
Baldwin and Dunlap had previously been romantically involved, though neighbors said the children were not Dunlap’s. One resident told authorities she had repeatedly contacted police about suspected drug activity at the residence, noting a steady stream of visitors.
Toddlers Hospitalized, Then Placed in Welfare Custody
Following their rescue, both girls were taken to a hospital for examination. They were subsequently transferred to Allegheny County Children, Youth, and Families. Officials have not disclosed details about their medical status after evaluation.
Police have not revealed who alerted emergency services to the situation or how responders learned the children were inside the Franklin Avenue home.
Community Left Searching for Explanation
John Sloan, a local resident, shared his confusion about the incident with KDKA television. “I just don’t know what could have possibly happened or what someone could have done or what the parents could have done,” Sloan said. “This is a mystery.”
No arrests have been made, and no criminal charges have been filed in connection with the deaths. The investigation remains active as the community waits for autopsy results that may explain what transpired inside the home while two toddlers were left without care for days.
Wilkinsburg sits directly east of Pittsburgh in Allegheny County. Authorities have not issued further statements about the timeline of events or whether additional individuals may have been involved.
