The former Fox News host accused Trump of abandoning working-class Americans, neglecting domestic priorities and gambling his presidency on a disastrous regime-change war in Iran.
The remarks, delivered on the latest episode of “The Tucker Carlson Show” on April 29, 2026, represent a stunning rupture between the president and one of the conservative movement’s most influential media voices. Though Carlson never mentioned Trump by name, there was no mistaking the target of his fury.
A direct Indictment of the President

“You hate people like that,” Carlson said in the monologue. “And there may be other reasons you hate them, but you certainly hate them because they are a reminder of how you have failed. He acknowledged he had “misled” voters, though he insisted it was not intentional. He urged other former Trump backers to examine their own consciences rather than simply walk away from the movement they helped build.
Cracks Across the Republican Coalition
Carlson’s break from Trump is widely viewed as the harshest public rebuke from any former Trump ally — and it does not stand alone. Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene also appeared on “The Tucker Carlson Show” this week, telling the host that loyalists who “fought for him when no one else would” had been pushed out of Trump’s inner circle.
