Travis Kelce, fresh off his engagement to Taylor Swift, sat down with Colin Jost on the May 13, 2026 episode of the “New Heights” podcast he co-hosts with his brother Jason Kelce, and the conversation quickly became a masterclass in self-awareness.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end cut straight to the chase with his guest, asking the “Saturday Night Live” Weekend Update host, “How nice is it to be the less famous person in the relationship?”
Jost’s answer was refreshingly blunt: “Huge relief. Really.”
The two men have carved out unique positions in Hollywood’s power structure as partners to two of the entertainment industry’s biggest names. Jost married Scarlett Johansson in 2020 and shares son Cosmo, now four, with the “Black Widow” star. Kelce got engaged to Swift last year. Together, they’ve formed what Kelce jokingly called the “plus one fraternity,” where membership means embracing your role as “and guest” on the red carpet.
Welcome to the Plus One Fraternity
When Jost suggested the two could bond over their experiences alongside superstar partners, Kelce didn’t hesitate. “I’m on the team. I’m here for it,” the NFL star said, laughing at his own willingness to lean into the role.
A Comedian’s Material Problem
For Jost, being married to Johansson has even changed his stand-up routine. The classic comedian’s material about marriage — the complaints, the nagging, the domestic friction — simply doesn’t work when your wife is an Oscar nominee and Marvel headliner. Audiences aren’t exactly sympathetic when a comedian gripes about Scarlett Johansson. That whole genre of jokes, Jost joked, has been eliminated from his act.
Why Jost Gets Approached More Than ScarJo
Despite being married to one of the most recognizable faces on the planet, Jost, 43, revealed a curious wrinkle in the celebrity equation: fans actually approach him more frequently than they approach Johansson.
“It’s really funny because I’m probably almost approached more because she’s less approachable,” Jost explained. “Because I’m on TV. I’m in their living room, so they’re just like, ‘Hey, what’s up man? How’s it going?'”
Johansson has reached such stratospheric fame that some people simply refuse to believe it’s actually her, even when staring at her passport during airport checks. Agents have looked directly at her name and photo, Jost recalled, and still asked if anyone has ever told her she looks like Scarlett Johansson. His takeaway? In their minds, “it would be weirder if it was her.”
The Strange Side Effects of Superstardom
There’s at least one consistent downside to dining out with the Marvel star, Jost said: the food order is almost guaranteed to be wrong. When his wife steps up to order a sandwich, the person taking the order gets so flustered by who’s standing in front of them that they forget to write down the actual order. The result is usually a mystery meal with scrambled ingredients — or sometimes just “bread and just, like, a pickle,” Jost explained.
It’s a detail that likely resonates with Kelce, whose outings with Swift tend to attract similar attention. Jost and Johansson welcomed son Cosmo in 2021 and have largely kept him out of the public eye as he grows up in the center of that spotlight.
Both men made clear during their podcast appearance that they wouldn’t trade their spots in the celebrity ecosystem. Jost called the experience “really kind of awesome,” and Kelce sounded genuinely delighted to swap notes with someone who understands exactly what it’s like to hear screams aimed squarely past your shoulder. For the tight end and the Weekend Update anchor, the takeaway seemed simple enough: when your partner is the main event, the smartest play is to grab a seat, cheer them on, and enjoy the slightly easier walk through the airport.
