Caught Red-Handed: Fox Host’s Trump Denial Blows Up in Their Face

Greg Gutfeld of Fox News created a stir on Monday’s installment of “The Five” by protecting President Donald Trump from charges of self-absorption and fixation on poll numbers, a statement that immediately attracted examination considering the president’s extensively recorded social media presence and regular mentions of his popularity metrics.

The conservative commentator, who presents both his late-night show “Gutfeld!” and acts as a panelist on the channel’s primary afternoon discussion program, delivered the surprising statement during conversation about the “No Kings” demonstrations opposing Trump that occurred nationwide during the previous weekend.

Throughout the animated panel conversation, Gutfeld along with his fellow panelists analyzed the countrywide rallies that questioned President Trump’s governing approach. The demonstrations, which their coordinators presented as a protection of democratic values, attracted thousands of attendees across numerous metropolitan areas.

“This is ‘group therapy designed as public theater,'” Gutfeld said, characterizing the demonstrations as politically driven spectacle instead of authentic civic participation.

The contradiction in Gutfeld’s protection wasn’t overlooked by detractors, who highlighted President Trump’s substantial record of citing polling figures in addresses, media appearances, and online posts. During his time in politics, Trump has consistently highlighted positive polling information while rejecting negative figures as “fake” or distorted.

Monday’s edition of “The Five” addressed several controversial subjects in addition to the demonstrations, including continuing conversations regarding possible negotiations between the United States and Iran, President Trump’s visit to Georgia in February 2026 which advanced his administration’s cost-of-living message, and a dispute involving Pennsylvania House Democrats who pulled consideration of a Women’s Month resolution.

Commentator Kat Timpf contributed thoughts on the Pennsylvania legislative conflict, which developed following a Republican representative’s submission of an amendment to incorporate a definition of “woman” into the resolution. “As a taxpayer, I don’t want to see my government spending time on this,” Timpf said, voicing dissatisfaction with what she described as partisan stalemate regarding ceremonial legislation.

That same night, Gutfeld reinforced his disapproval of the anti-Trump rallies on his self-titled late-night program. The “Gutfeld!” discussion panel devoted over 17 minutes analyzing what they portrayed as misdirected demonstrations opposing the president’s governing style.

The show, which Newsweek has called “The King of Late Night,” regularly surpasses conventional broadcast late-night programs presented by Stephen Colbert on CBS, Jimmy Kimmel on ABC, and Jimmy Fallon on NBC in overall audience numbers and the sought-after 25-54 age group. This viewership achievement has established Gutfeld as one of Fox News’s most important broadcast talent.

Gutfeld came to Fox News in 2007 as a contributor prior to creating the late-night show “Red Eye,” which broadcast from 2007 to 2015. He subsequently presented “The Greg Gutfeld Show” from 2015 to 2021 before moving to his present primetime position. “The Five,” which he co-presents on weekday afternoons at 5 p.m. ET, achieved television history as the initial non-primetime offering to place as the top-rated show in both overall audience and the 25-54 age bracket.

Prior to his broadcasting profession, Gutfeld worked as editor-in-chief of Men’s Health magazine, Stuff magazine, and Maxim magazine in the United Kingdom. A University of California, Berkeley graduate with a degree in English, he has written six New York Times bestselling books and been characterized by The Weekly Standard as “the most dangerous man on television.”

The rallies that sparked Monday’s conversation constitute the most recent point of conflict in continuing friction between Trump advocates and opponents. Demonstrators held placards displaying “No Kings” and voiced chants questioning what they described as dictatorial patterns in the present administration.

President Trump has not personally addressed Gutfeld’s protection or the recent weekend rallies, although he remains actively engaged on social media and during public appearances. His Georgia visit, referenced during “The Five” program, constituted part of a wider administration initiative to tackle voter worries regarding inflation and living expenses before the midterm electoral period.

The interaction underscores the continuing discussion regarding presidential character and governing approach that has characterized American politics since Trump initially joined the political landscape. While advocates applaud his readiness to question traditional political conventions, opponents contend his emphasis on individual affirmation compromises successful governing.
