TV Actor Dies at 25 While Filming Scene

Todd Meadows, a 25-year-old deckhand filming his debut season on the Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch,” died February 25 after falling overboard from the fishing vessel Aleutian Lady while working in the treacherous waters of the Bering Sea off the coast of Alaska.

Captain Rick Shelford announced Meadows’ death in a Facebook post on Monday, March 2, revealing that crew members found the Montesano, Washington native unresponsive roughly 10 minutes after the incident. Despite immediate resuscitation attempts, Meadows could not be saved.

“February 25, 2026 was the most tragic day in the history of the Aleutian Lady on the Bering Sea,” Shelford wrote. “We lost our brother, Todd Meadows.”

The United States Coast Guard Arctic District has launched an investigation to uncover the cause of the fatal incident. The Coast Guard confirmed Meadows fell overboard approximately 170 miles north of Dutch Harbor, Alaska, at about 5:05 p.m. local time. TMZ reports the incident occurred during active filming of the series, though whether cameras captured the tragedy is unknown.

Meadows had joined the Aleutian Lady crew in May 2025, quickly earning the respect of his fellow deckhands with his passion for the work and tireless dedication. Shelford described a young man whose contagious smile and laughter brightened the grueling days at sea.

The tragedy marks another loss for the “Deadliest Catch” family, which has weathered previous deaths among its cast. Nick Mavar died at 59 in June 2024 after suffering a heart attack, while Nick McGlashan passed away at age 33 in December 2020.

Meadows leaves behind three young sons whom he adored. The father’s love for his children defined his life both on and off the boat, according to those who knew him best.

Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of the Discovery Channel, released a statement expressing profound sadness over the loss. “This is a devastating loss, and our hearts are with his loved ones, his crewmates, and the entire fishing community during this incredibly difficult time,” a spokesperson told media outlets.

Following Meadows’ death, producers sent a memo to the “Deadliest Catch” production team informing them of the incident and offering resources to help staff process their grief. Production for the 22nd season concluded shortly after the tragedy, as the Aleutian Lady was the last vessel still filming at sea.

A GoFundMe campaign launched to support Meadows’ three sons has raised more than $30,000 as of Wednesday, surpassing its initial goal. The fundraiser describes Meadows as “a beloved 25-year-old father, son, brother and friend, who left us far too soon while doing what he loved—crabbing out on Alaskan waters.”

The campaign emphasizes that Meadows was a determined father whose three boys were his entire world—every sacrifice he made was for their futures and the memories they would carry with them.

Family members flooded social media with tributes to the young deckhand. His grandmother Connie Lambert wrote that she takes comfort knowing Meadows did not suffer during the accident and praised the Coast Guard for their rescue efforts.

Meadows’ sister Rozlyn expressed her grief online, thanking Captain Shelford for his heartfelt tribute and noting how many lives her brother touched in his short time.

Kennady Harvey, the mother of Meadows’ children, thanked those honoring his memory and vowed to keep his spirit alive for their sons. Harvey wrote that Meadows loved the brotherhood of fishing, and she would never let their children forget their father.

“Deadliest Catch” premiered in 2005 and has documented the dangerous reality of commercial crab fishing in Alaska’s unforgiving waters for more than two decades. Season 21 concluded last year, with Season 22 set to air following the completion of filming.

The series has built a devoted following by showcasing the extreme risks fishermen face as they battle brutal weather conditions, massive waves, and equipment failures while hauling in lucrative crab harvests. The show’s title reflects the stark reality that commercial fishing ranks among America’s most hazardous occupations.

Captain Shelford closed his tribute with a promise that Meadows’ memory will endure among the tight-knit crew who worked alongside him during his brief time aboard the Aleutian Lady. Meadows will forever be part of the boat, the crew, and the brotherhood, Shelford wrote—his legacy living on through his children and in every memory the crew carries of him.
