Another Dead Body Found at Disney

A body was found on the premises of Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, on January 2, 2026. This marks the sixth mortality at the popular resort within the last three months. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident at the Disney Springs Orange Garage on East Buena Vista Drive around 9 p.m., where a man was found dead.

The authorities are treating this incident as a potential suicide and announced that there would be no further updates released during the weekend.

This recent event follows a worrying trend at the famed theme park. On October 14, 31-year-old Summer Equitz committed suicide at the Contemporary Resort Hotel. Equitz was from Illinois and had traveled to the resort.

A week later, on October 21, a 60-year-old man with hypertension and end-stage liver disease suffered a medical emergency and died at the Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground.

Just two days after, on October 23, an aspiring NFL referee, 28-year-old Matthew Cohn, also committed suicide at the Contemporary Resort Hotel.

The chain of deaths continued into November with a woman in her 40s found unresponsive at the Pop Century Resort on November 2. She later died in the hospital, with no evidence of foul play. Another unidentified individual died at the Saratoga Springs Resort on November 8.

The latest body was discovered at the Orange Garage, a parking facility serving the Disney Springs district, a shopping and entertainment complex within Walt Disney World. Contemporary Resort Hotel, where two of the deaths occurred, is one of Disney World’s main properties, located near the Magic Kingdom.

Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, where one death occurred, offers a unique Disney experience with campsites, cabins, and recreational activities in a wooded, natural environment. The Pop Century Resort, a hotel celebrating American pop culture, and Saratoga Springs Resort, a deluxe villa resort near Disney Springs, themed around upstate New York’s historic Saratoga Springs, are also part of Disney World.

These recent deaths represent an unusually concentrated occurrence for the resort, with six deaths within four months being highly irregular.

Disney World, with its four theme parks, numerous resort hotels, and millions of annual visitors, does experience occasional fatalities and medical emergencies due to its large scale of operations. However, the recent frequency of these incidents has raised concerns.

Across nationwide theme parks, most deaths result from pre-existing medical conditions, with cardiac incidents being the most common. Although suicides at resort properties are not unheard of, the number of apparent suicides at Disney World in recent months is notably high.

Despite this, Disney parks generally have a strong safety record, employing extensive security measures, medical staff, and safety protocols. Each resort hotel has a security staff, and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office handles law enforcement and death investigations on Disney World property under an agreement with the resort.

Other safety incidents have also occurred recently. On New Year’s Eve, a worker at the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular was injured by a 400-pound prop boulder that rolled off its track during a performance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios park.

“We’re focused on supporting our cast member, who is recovering,” Disney stated. “Safety is at the heart of what we do, and that element of the show will be modified as our safety team completes a review of what happened.” The company is currently reviewing the circumstances of the incident.

Walt Disney World, which spans a large area in Orange and Osceola counties, includes four theme parks, two water parks, over 25 resort hotels, and the Disney Springs entertainment district. Given the size and visitor volume, emergency services personnel respond to hundreds of medical calls at the resort each year.

When fatalities occur, the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office conducts investigations to determine the cause and manner of death. These investigations can take weeks or months to complete, especially when specialized testing such as toxicology reports are required.

Disney has not made a public comment on the recent string of deaths other than confirming its cooperation with law enforcement investigations. The company usually refers to the authorities for information regarding ongoing investigations and refrains from releasing details about incidents involving guests or employees.
