Disney Resort Horror: Third Guest Found Dead

Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, witnessed three guest fatalities over a span of 10 days in October 2025, raising questions regarding safety and mental health at the renowned resort.

The initial incident occurred on October 14, with 31-year-old Summer Equitz passing away at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, located near Magic Kingdom Park. The Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office declared her death a suicide, resulting from multiple blunt impact injuries due to a fall.

On October 21, a man in his 60s suffered a medical episode at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Officials stated his death was linked to an existing medical condition.

The third fatality took place on October 23, when 28-year-old Matthew Cohn died at Bay Lake Tower, a Disney Vacation Club property adjacent to the Contemporary Resort. Authorities ruled Cohn’s death a suicide, with multiple traumatic injuries cited as the cause. Authorities said all three deaths were unrelated, and no foul play was suspected by police.

Two of the fatalities occurred at the Contemporary Resort, a 14-story A-frame structure with a monorail passing through. Reports suggest hotel staff were instructed to prevent guests from witnessing law enforcement activities during these events.

These three deaths contribute to a total of 68 fatalities at Walt Disney World since its opening in 1971. This statistic spans over five decades at one of the globe’s most frequented theme park destinations.

Despite the close timing of these incidents, experts note that guest deaths at theme parks are infrequent. Experts suggest that fatalities are typically linked to health issues or personal matters rather than safety failures or ride accidents. The Fort Wilderness incident aligns with this observation as it involved a medical condition.

The Contemporary Resort’s unique architecture and accessible upper floors have previously been sites for individuals experiencing severe mental health crises. Its monorail access and proximity to Magic Kingdom Park make it a favored location for Disney guests.

Investigations into the circumstances of each death are ongoing, though officials have confirmed the causes and manners of death. The Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted examinations and provided official determinations. Local law enforcement collaborated with Disney security in responding to all incidents.

Walt Disney World has not released a public statement regarding these deaths. The affected resorts continue to operate as usual, with no announced adjustments to safety protocols or guest services in response.

The timing of these incidents, occurring within 10 days, represents an unusual concentration of fatalities at the resort. Walt Disney World, which hosts millions annually across its parks and resorts, finds such a cluster statistically notable.

Earlier in October, on October 6, a woman in her 60s died at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, after riding the Haunted Mansion. This death was attributed to a health issue during or after the ride. Disneyland had also witnessed fatal falls from parking garages in the prior year.

Officials confirmed that the two suicides at the Contemporary Resort were unrelated. The medical episode death at Fort Wilderness was similarly unconnected to the other two cases.

Bay Lake Tower, where Cohn died, is part of the Disney Vacation Club timeshare program. Connected to the Contemporary Resort via a skywalk bridge, it offers views of Magic Kingdom and convenient monorail access.

Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, where the medical emergency occurred, spans 750 acres and offers a variety of camping sites, cabins, and recreational activities. It is situated on Bay Lake, accessible by boat and bus from the main park areas.

Walt Disney World continues normal operations across its properties. The Contemporary Resort and Bay Lake Tower remain open to guests. Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground continues welcoming guests.
