Joe Rogan Destroys CNN Over Content Meltdown

Podcaster Joe Rogan and comedian Tim Dillon recently criticized CNN during an episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” highlighting concerns over the network’s alleged biased coverage and its understanding of the podcast industry. Their discussion underscored the tension between traditional media and the burgeoning podcast sector.

Dillon, who CNN interviewed, shared his experience with Rogan, noting the network’s skewed perception of podcasters and their relationships. Dillon recounted that the CNN interviewer was surprised at his willingness to participate in the interview.

“She goes, ‘I can’t believe you would show up. People have said that they can’t come on because Joe Rogan would get mad at them,” and I replied, ‘That’s absolutely ridiculous.’ I said ‘He doesn’t care, he would never care,'” Dillon recounted.

Rogan expressed disbelief at this characterization, noting that CNN seems to perceive hostility between the network and podcasters, which he believes is nonexistent. He clarified that his issue with CNN lies in their current news coverage approach, not in a personal vendetta.

The podcast host indicated his preference for CNN to focus on factual reporting rather than opinion-driven content. Rogan emphasized he does not wish to be considered an adversary of CNN but hopes for improved editorial decisions from the network.

“I hope CNN corrects course and does real news, and just concentrates on the news,” Rogan stated. “I don’t want editorial comments from morons. Right? So when you’re force-feeding me Don Lemon’s opinion on how the world should be, and how everyone should be ashamed if they don’t get vaccinated – like you’re force-feeding me morons.”

Rogan attributed CNN’s declining viewership to what he perceives as the network’s dishonesty and bias. He cited instances where he believes viewers were misled without subsequent corrections, thereby affecting their credibility.

Dillon suggested during their conversation that CNN operates as an extension of the Democratic Party. Rogan concurred, acknowledging uncertainty over whether this alignment is intentional or circumstantial.

“Whether they are forced to be, or whether they choose to be because they identify with being Democrat, and they want to skew things completely towards the left, I don’t know, I don’t know what the answer to that is,” Rogan said.

Despite his critiques, Rogan expressed a desire for CNN’s success and improvement, recalling the network’s past quality content, such as Anthony Bourdain’s travel series “Parts Unknown.”

The discussion between Rogan and Dillon illustrates evolving media consumption trends, notably after the 2024 presidential election, where podcasts played a pivotal role in campaign strategies.

Political campaigns increasingly utilized podcast appearances to engage specific demographics, particularly young men. The so-called “podcast election” saw appearances from President Donald Trump and his opponent Kamala Harris, with Trump’s campaign particularly active in the medium.

Analysts highlight that podcast formats offer candidates a more intimate and extended platform than traditional media interviews. The conversational style of podcasts typically allows for deeper discussions with fewer constraints.

Data from YouGov indicates that podcast listeners are generally more politically engaged than the broader population, with higher rates of voting and participation in campaign activities, making them valuable for political campaigns.

Rogan’s podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience,” is one of the most influential in the field, attracting millions of listeners per episode. Its format of lengthy discussions provides a platform for detailed conversations on various subjects.

Dillon, host of “The Tim Dillon Show,” has been a frequent guest on Rogan’s podcast. Both have built significant audiences outside traditional media, reflecting consumer preferences shifting from cable news to digital and on-demand content.

The rise of podcasting as a primary media format challenges established networks like CNN, which have experienced declining viewership. As podcasts gain cultural and political influence, the tension between traditional media and these emerging platforms is likely to continue.
