Netflix Star Dead at 37

Spanish actor José de la Torre, best known for his captivating role in Netflix’s hit series “Toy Boy,” has died at 37. His passing on December 5, 2024 followed a courageous battle with a serious illness, which he publicly revealed earlier this year. The news was confirmed by his family, who requested privacy during their time of grief.

De la Torre was born in Montilla, Córdoba, a small town in southern Spain, and grew up with a passion for the arts. He later attended the Higher School of Dramatic Art in Málaga, where he honed his craft. His big break came in 2019 with “Toy Boy,” where he played Iván, a dancer with a mysterious and troubled past. The role catapulted him to international fame, earning him admiration for his depth and charisma on-screen.

In addition to “Toy Boy,” de la Torre appeared in other acclaimed Spanish series, including “Vis a Vis: El Oasis and Amar es Para Siempre.” His versatility as an actor was widely praised, and he quickly became a household name in Spanish television. Colleagues described him as a consummate professional and a supportive friend, always bringing positive energy to the set.

Earlier this year, in June, de la Torre disclosed his illness in an emotional statement, announcing his decision to step back from public appearances to focus on his health. Despite his struggles, his final Instagram post, shared on June 3, depicted him smiling at a cultural event in the Canary Islands. The post reflected his enduring optimism and zest for life, even in adversity.

Tributes have poured in from fans and colleagues across the globe. Actress Luisa Martín, a close friend and co-star, expressed her sorrow, saying, “It breaks my heart to lose such a vibrant and talented soul. José’s dedication and kindness will be deeply missed.” Fans also flooded social media with messages of condolence, many recalling his humility and warmth in person.

José de la Torre leaves a remarkable legacy of inspiring performances and a lasting impression on his industry and audience. His family has suggested that those wishing to honor his memory make donations to cancer research organizations.

De la Torre is survived by his father Antonio de la Torre Hidalgo, mother Maria Jose Delgado Espejo and sister Marina.
