Scott L. Schwartz, the towering actor and former professional wrestler renowned for his role as Bruiser in the “Ocean’s” film series, passed away on November 26, 2024, at his home in Covington, Louisiana. He died from congestive heart failure at the age of 65.
Schwartz was born on March 16, 1959 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Before attending Temple University, he excelled in football, baseball, and ice hockey at Washington High School. After college, he ventured into professional wrestling, performing under monikers such as “Joshua Ben-Gurion—The Israeli Commando” and “Giant David.” Standing 6 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 303 pounds, his imposing presence captivated audiences worldwide.
Trained by WWE Hall of Famer Walter ‘Killer’ Kowalski, Schwartz’s wrestling career spanned numerous countries, including Japan, South Africa, and Australia. Industry legends like Verne Gagne and Vince McMahon promoted him. His wrestling prowess eventually caught the attention of a Hollywood agent, leading to his transition into acting.
Schwartz’s breakthrough came in 2001 with his portrayal of Bruiser in “Ocean’s Eleven,” a role he reprised in “Ocean’s Twelve” and “Ocean’s Thirteen.” His filmography extends to over 100 productions, featuring appearances in “The Scorpion King,” “Spider-Man,” “Starsky & Hutch,” and “Fun with Dick and Jane.” Television audiences recognized him from roles in “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” and “The Young and the Restless.”

His wife, Misty, remembered him as a “jolly person, so full of life, a strong loving person, foodie and travel aficionado” who cherished every moment and connection. Actor Rick Zahn honored Schwartz as a “good man” and “a dear friend,” highlighting his passion for life and devotion to his family.
George Clooney, a co-star in the “Ocean’s” series, paid tribute, stating, “We did three films together, and I’ve never been so gently punched. He was a gentle soul, and he will be dearly missed.”
Schwartz is survived by his wife, Misty; children, Angela and Adam; mother-in-law, Brenda; cousins, Sherry and Duwayne; and his aunt, Penni, and her immediate family.
