On October 22, 2024, Sarah Danser, a 34-year-old reality TV personality known for her numerous appearances on the Discovery Channel’s “Naked and Afraid” series, passed away after a vehicle collision in Kahala, Hawaii.
The accident occurred on October 20 when a 59-year-old male driver of the vehicle carrying Danser lost control and crashed into a stationary car. Despite being buckled up, Danser sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries two days later.
The driver of the vehicle, who was not using a seatbelt at the time of the accident, suffered severe injuries. Another person in a parked car was injured while a second individual declined medical attention. The Honolulu police confirmed that the speed of the vehicle contributed to the crash, but neither drugs nor alcohol were involved.
Danser was born on August 10, 1990 in Castle Rock, Colorado. She had built a life around survival challenges and oceanic exploration. A proficient survivalist, Danser featured in several seasons of “Naked and Afraid,” including the 2017, 2020, and the 2018, 2020, 2021 seasons of “Naked and Afraid XL”. Her most recent television stint was on the CW’s “Fight to Survive” in August 2023.
Melissa Lauren, Danser’s co-participant on “Naked and Afraid,” paid homage to her on Facebook, lauding her adventurous spirit. Lauren praised Danser’s superior survival skills, recalling their shared experience in South Africa on “Naked and Afraid XL”. She also acknowledged Danser’s resilience as a two-time breast cancer survivor who showcased inspiring positivity throughout her treatment. Lauren portrayed Danser as a lover of the ocean, nature, and exploration, referring to her as a “modern-day pirate.”
Hawaii had been Danser’s home for the past 12 years. She was a boat captain and scuba diving instructor for Island Divers Hawaii. Danser also resided part-time on a boat in Kewalo Basin, which allowed her to indulge in her passion for travel and adventure.
Danser was a cherished member of the local diving community in Hawaii. Island Divers Hawaii, where she worked, expressed their condolences on their Facebook page. The post included a screenshot of Danser’s last Instagram post and conveyed the company’s grief over the loss of a dear friend and proficient captain. They recognized Danser’s positive influence on those around her and stated that she will be dearly missed.
Danser’s father, Dan, and brother, Jake, were by her side during her final hours at the hospital. Island Divers Hawaii has announced their intention to erect a memorial in her honor.
