Former President Donald Trump dismissed singer Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday, September 11, expressing his preference for Brittany Mahomes, wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
In an early morning interview on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends,” Trump, 78, was asked about Swift’s recent endorsement of his Democratic rival. “I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better, if you want to know the truth. She’s a big Trump fan,” Trump said.
The former president elaborated on his opinion of Brittany Mahomes, stating, “I like Brittany. I think Brittany’s great. She’s a big, she’s a big MAGA fan. Much better than Taylor Swift.”
Trump’s comments come in the wake of Brittany Mahomes making headlines for liking one of his Instagram posts that outlined his “2024 GOP Platform.” The post reportedly included promises such as keeping “men OUT of women’s sports” and cutting federal funding for schools that teach “Critical Race Theory” and “Radical Gender Ideology.”
Following backlash from Swift’s fans, Mahomes addressed the situation on her Instagram Story, writing that “haters” must have “deep rooted issues” and that one can “disagree with someone, and still love them.” She later removed her like from Trump’s post and does not currently follow him on Instagram.
Trump suggested that Swift’s endorsement of Harris could have negative financial consequences for the singer.
Swift, 34, took to Instagram after the recent debate between Trump and Harris to express her support for the vice president. “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Swift wrote. She added that Harris was “a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
This is not the first time Swift has endorsed Democratic candidates. In 2020, she publicly supported Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for president and vice president, respectively. She has also backed other Democratic candidates in previous elections.
Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance, also weighed in on Swift’s endorsement, stating that Americans won’t be influenced by a “billionaire celebrity” like Swift who is “disconnected from the interests and the problems of most Americans.”
The situation has led to speculation about a potential divide between Brittany Mahomes and Taylor Swift, who have been seen together at sporting events and are known to be friends through their relationships with NFL players. However, recent sightings of the two together suggest their friendship remains intact despite the political tensions.
Patrick Mahomes, the NFL quarterback, has stated that he does not plan to endorse a presidential candidate this year, preferring his social media platform to not be used for that purpose.
As public figures continue to voice their political opinions, the impact of these endorsements on voter behavior remains a topic of debate.
