Hugo Vickers, a prominent royal biographer, has predicted that Prince Harry could return to the UK permanently, but without his wife, Meghan Markle. Vickers, the co-author of Prince Edward’s memoir “A Royal Life,” portrayed Prince Harry as an individual filled with anger and fear of losing his wife.
According to Vickers, King Charles III would likely welcome Prince Harry’s return. He mentioned, “The King has left the door wide open for him to do that, and he was doing such a good job before and…he looked so happy.”
Prince Harry and Meghan have made only a few trips back to the United Kingdom since they stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and moved to the United States. Their last visit together was for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022. Vickers suggests that Harry’s return to the UK could be a positive development, as long as he comes back alone. “If he comes home, we must be very nice to him because he won’t particularly want to,” Vickers said, underlining the need for a hospitable welcome for Harry.
Former royal butler Grant Harrold, who served King Charles, shares similar views. Harrold believes that Prince Harry would need to publicly apologize for the harm caused by his revealing memoir, “Spare,” to be accepted back into the royal family. Harrold stated, “The only way I see this happening is a public acknowledgment from Harry, where he says that he’s sorry for the hurt that the book created.”
Jennie Bond, another royal expert, proposed that Prince Harry could be forgiven and welcomed back into the royal family, but this reconciliation would likely require a separation from Meghan. “I think that Harry, without Meghan, would be forgiven and welcomed back into the royal fold in the fullness of time,” Bond said.
During his recent solo visit to the UK for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, Prince Harry expressed his desire to see his father, though their schedules did not permit a meeting. Meghan chose to stay in the US with their children during this visit, marking her absence from the UK since the Queen’s funeral.
However, it remains unclear how or when such a return might occur. The unresolved issues between Prince Harry and the royal family, particularly his brother Prince William, further complicate the situation. As Harrold puts it, “Some hurtful remarks were made, and not all families know how to reconcile.”
