Offensive Tackle For Dallas Cowboys Passes at 46

Char-ron Dorsey, former offensive tackle for the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Texans, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024, aged 46. The sports community mourns the loss of this prominent figure.

Dorsey died due to complications from a stroke. He is remembered not only for his achievements on the football field but also for his significant contributions off the field.

Dorsey was born in 1977 and began his football career at The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida, earning all-state honors. His exceptional performance led him to the Florida State Seminoles college football team, where he played a crucial role in the team’s national championship win in 1999, earning All-ACC honors.

The Dallas Cowboys drafted Dorsey in the seventh round of the 2001 NFL Draft, marking the start of his professional career. Dorsey played 12 games in the NFL, split between the Cowboys and the Texans. A knee injury in 2003 forced him to retire from professional football.

Following his retirement, Dorsey found his calling in coaching youth football programs in Jacksonville, Florida. He coached at middle school and high school levels, leaving a lasting imprint on young athletes through his mentorship.

Dorsey had a successful coaching tenure at Matthew Gilbert Middle School, guiding the team to an 87-5 record and three championships over ten seasons. His colleagues praised his dedication and coaching skills.

As a coach, Dorsey’s focus was not solely on football but also on life lessons. “He was very much about the kids and not just about football. He was teaching them about life,” a colleague shared. This sentiment was reiterated by many who knew him, underlining Dorsey’s commitment to teaching life lessons through football.

One of his former players said, “He pushed us to be our best, not just as athletes but as young men. He cared about what we were doing in school and our lives at home. He was more than a coach; he was a mentor, a friend.”

Dorsey’s son, C.J. Dorsey, a defensive back at Ferris State University who also played under his father, survives him. He continues his father’s legacy in football.

Visitation and funeral services for Dorsey were held in Jacksonville, Florida, attended by family, friends, former teammates, and those he coached, in a tribute to his life and legacy.

Dorsey’s work in youth and high school football coaching leaves a significant gap in the Jacksonville community and the broader world of football.
