Two Dead, Four Injured in Party Shooting

On Sunday, February 4, 2024, in Denver, Colorado’s Green Valley Ranch neighborhood, what began as a residential party turned violent, leading to two fatalities and four injuries, according to statements from Denver police.

Reports indicate that a group of uninvited guests arrived at the gathering at around 1:23 a.m., leading to a confrontation, which quickly spiraled into gunfire.

Sean Towle, a spokesperson for the Denver Police Department, noted that the evidence collected at the scene suggested the use of multiple firearms, indicating a rapid exchange of gunfire. Bullet shell casings and spots of blood were found half a block away from the crime scene.

The victims included a 26-year-old man and a young boy, the latter killed without direct involvement in the conflict.

The four additional victims, all male and including one in critical condition, have been hospitalized. The ages of three victims were confirmed as adults, with the fourth’s age yet to be determined.

Authorities are treating the shooting as a targeted incident, not a random act of violence. “We don’t believe it’s random at this time,” spokesperson Towle remarked, highlighting the deliberate nature of the attack. No arrests have been made so far.

This latest outbreak of violence marks the third such incident in Green Valley Ranch within the last three months, raising alarm among local authorities and residents alike about a growing trend of violence in the area.

Investigations have suggested that several individuals present at the time of the shooting may have departed before the arrival of the police, possibly holding information crucial to the case. In response, Denver Police have issued a public appeal for any witnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward.

A local resident, requesting anonymity, voiced unease about the recent uptick in violence, noting a perceived decrease in police presence and an increase in armed attendees at public gatherings. “People have get-togethers, people bring guns now, which is scary,” the resident said, expressing a sentiment of growing apprehension within the neighborhood.
