On Tuesday morning, October 24, 2023, in Santiago, Chile, a well-known figure, recognized from her presence on TikTok, was executed by an unidentified masked assailant.
Sabrina Durán, 24, known as the “Ina, the Narco Queen” due to her prior involvement in drug-related activities, was walking to a nail salon in Padre Hurtado, Santiago when three men abruptly stopped her. A video recorded by an onlooker depicted Durán lying face down in the street, attempting to rise when a gunman approached and fired several shots. The assailant then used Durán’s vehicle for a hasty getaway.
While the exact reason behind this brazen act remains uncertain, initial statements from sources close to the investigation hint at the incident being a case of “settling scores.” However, the specifics of who might have wanted Durán dead or why are still mysterious. Soon after the shooting, Durán’s vehicle was discovered ablaze in the town of Quilicura, a potential attempt to destroy evidence or a symbolic act.
Police major Leonel Muñoz addressed the media, stating, “We are expanding the field of investigation to see if there are more motivating factors.” The police are still piecing together the sequence of events leading up to the shooting, and more information is awaited.
Durán’s criminal past was public knowledge. In 2022, she was sentenced to three years in prison for drug trafficking. While incarcerated, she made headlines again by trying to flee the facility. Durán and other inmates attempted an audacious escape by jumping from the prison’s third floor. However, they were quickly recaptured.
Parallel to her illicit activities, Durán had carved a niche for herself on TikTok, amassing an impressive following of over 467,000. Since 2021, her account has focused on promoting beauty products. A day before the incident, Durán posted a video reviewing products she had received from DCM Cosmetic. This merging of her online influencer persona with her criminal background created a unique, if not controversial, profile.
