On October 13, 2022, DJ Mehmet Koray Alpergin, 43, and his 34-year-old girlfriend Gozde Dalbudak had a terrifying incident near the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, which ended in tragedy. After a meal in an Italian eatery located in the Mayfair district, six individuals abruptly confronted them.
Testimonies from the jury trial that commenced on September 20 disclosed that Alpergin’s vehicle had been covertly outfitted with a tracking device. The technology allowed the attackers to precisely locate and corner the couple. Dalbudak was intimidated with a blade and later isolated in a restroom in a vacant wine establishment on White Hart Lane for two days. Alpergin’s naked body, with an array of injuries, was located in the Essex forests two days subsequent to their capture. He was horrifically tortured, “punched, kicked, hit with a bat, and scalded with boiling water while his feet were stabbed, according to prosecutors.”
Currently facing legal repercussions are Steffan Gordon, 34, Tejean Kennedy, 33, Samuel Owusu-Opoku, 35, Junior Kettle, 32, Ali Kavak, 26, and Erdogan Ulcay, 56. The array of allegations against them includes murder, abduction, unlawful confinement, and thwarting justice.
Lawyer Crispin Aylett, speaking in court, posited that the actions against Alpergin might be due to retaliation for an earlier issue or to gather specific intelligence, possibly related to narcotics or financial dealings. He further elaborated on the links between the crime and organized illegal networks, emphasizing narcotics.
Further details have emerged regarding Alpergin’s precarious situation leading up to the event. Being the proprietor of Bizim FM, a Turkish radio station in London, Alpergin was observed to be visibly distressed, weighed down by financial strains, including a car debt of $40,000.
In response to the charges, Kennedy, Owusu-Opoku, Kettle, and Kavak have denied allegations encompassing murder, illegal confinement, and abduction. Gordon, while admitting to the abduction, denies the other two major charges. Ulcay and Kavak have disputed the charges of impeding justice, while Owusu-Opoku has conceded to them.
