A seven-year-old boy tragically lost his life in a senseless shooting incident in Tampa, Florida, on Tuesday, July 4.
The young boy, whose identity has been withheld, was fatally struck in the head by a stray bullet during an unrelated dispute about jet skis near a picnic area off the Courtney Campbell Causeway.
In an attempt to shield his grandson, the boy’s grandfather pulled him into a vehicle. Unfortunately, the grandfather was also wounded in the process, sustaining a finger injury from the same bullet. Authorities revealed that the shootout stemmed from an argument at a nearby boat launch regarding jet skis.
During a news conference, Deputy Chief Calvin Johnson of the Tampa Police expressed his disappointment, stating that the shooter had let anger cloud their judgment, leading them to act recklessly. Despite a plea for the shooter to surrender, no arrests have been made yet, prompting the police to request the public’s assistance in providing any relevant information about the incident.
“One group was mad because the second group was riding their jet skis too close to the shore,” Deputy Chief Johnson said at a news conference
