An adviser to First Lady Melania Trump dismissed as gossip the speculation surrounding President Donald Trump and his executive assistant, Natalie Harp, in an interview posted on X on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 — the same week it emerged that the 35-year-old aide was one of four staffers who had received cash gifts from the president. Press Association photo captions identify her as “White House Appointments Secretary,” while CBS News describes her as “a special assistant and executive assistant to the president.” A week later, a fabricated image of the two of them was circulating online.
Marc Beckman, Melania Trump’s exclusive senior adviser, sat down with Stella Escobedo, a One America News Network anchor. Escobedo opened by asserting that mainstream outlets refuse to cover what Melania Trump has done during her husband’s second term and fixate instead on tabloid gossip about Harp, whom she described as a loyal, hardworking aide and a cancer survivor.
A Blast at the Liberal Media
“The liberal media is ridiculous,” Beckman said. Reporters, he added, know nothing about the first lady’s personal and private life, and they will not set aside airtime for his team to discuss what he described as her achievements during the 47th presidential administration and the 45th.
“What they need to do is look in the mirror because they’re all attacking this hardworking, very talented, very intelligent person in Natalie Harp,” he continued. Escobedo replied that the coverage never lets up and urged critics to move on. “The media doesn’t know about the first family’s private life. Period,” Beckman added.
Four Aides, $155,000
The gift that put Harp back in the news was not hers alone. Financial disclosure forms released in early September, first reported by The Washington Post on Tuesday, September 8, show Trump gave $45,000 apiece to Harp, communications adviser Margo Martin and Chamberlain Harris, deputy director of Oval Office operations, and $20,000 to Walt Nauta, who directs Oval Office operations — $155,000 in all. The forms describe the money as a “cash gift for holidays,” given last holiday season. Harp’s share is roughly a third of her $150,000 taxpayer-funded salary.
Davis Ingle, a White House spokesman, said the gifts “have nothing to do with any of these individuals’ official government duties, and, therefore, are entirely permissible under relevant legal and ethical standards,” and the press office cited a longstanding practice of Christmas gifts to people in Trump’s orbit. Ethics lawyers disagreed. Richard Painter, the George W. Bush White House ethics counsel, told The Washington Post the payments could run afoul of the bar on supplementing a federal salary: “A White House staffer is not your Fifth Avenue doorman.” Don Fox, a former acting director of the Office of Government Ethics, called them troublesome.
The Aide Known as the Human Printer
Harp was a presenter at One America News from 2020 to 2022 and has since appeared alongside the 80-year-old president with increasing frequency. She is known as the “human printer,” a nickname she earned by carrying a portable printer so she can hand him printed articles.
Her proximity has drawn scrutiny well beyond the gift. New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan write in “Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump” that Harp alarmed the Secret Service in the years between Trump’s two terms by leaving adoring letters in his private quarters, one of them reading, “You are all that matters to me.” The perceived closeness has fueled unfounded rumors of an affair, which the White House and its allies angrily reject.
A Senator’s Jab and the Backlash
Beckman’s comments follow a bruising exchange in August. At an Atlanta rally on Sunday, August 16, Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., worked Harp’s name into an attack on the president’s work ethic: “See, he doesn’t want to do the job. He wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie on their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the Emir of Qatar.” The “flying palace” line, Newsweek reported, referred to reports that Harp was among the small group of people who joined Trump when he secretly swapped planes while leaving Turkey in July because of a threat from Iran. He did not allege an affair, and later declined to explain why he had invoked her name.
The response from Trump’s team was immediate and personal. Ingle branded the senator “a cringeworthy, feminine theatre kid cosplaying as Barack Obama” and called Harp one of the most loyal and hardest-working aides on the president’s team. Steven Cheung, the White House communications director, wrote on X that Ossoff should “look deep into his soul and ask himself why he’s a miserable person who hates this country,” and in another post dubbed the senator “the biggest cuck loser in politics.” Trump himself joined in, calling Ossoff a “Pee-Wee Herman look-alike,” Semafor reported.
The ferocity of that pushback was partly a matter of household politics, Semafor reported: a person close to the White House said the first lady “doesn’t like these types of things,” and that Harp “will ultimately jump the highest out of anyone in the room when he says jump.”
A First Lady Out of the Spotlight
Melania Trump has stayed largely out of public view since her husband returned to office. On August 20 she appeared in the Rose Garden to announce a $2 million donation from IndyCar and Fox Corporation expanding her Fostering the Future initiative to Indiana University and Purdue University, bringing it to 26 academic institutions — the kind of work Beckman says gets crowded out by rumor-chasing.
Harp’s position appears unchanged. She traveled with the president to Ireland, photographed stepping off Air Force One at Dublin Airport in the early hours of September 12, 2026, and then boarding Marine One at Shannon Airport, Co Clare, as Trump travelled to the Irish Open at Trump International Golf Links and Hotel in Doonbeg. Pictured in a forest-green gown hauling an oversized black duffel bag, she drew comment from journalist Aaron Rupar, who posted the photo on X and wrote: “damn, Natalie’s bag just keep getting bigger and bigger.”
On Sunday, September 13, the White House rapid response account attacked a journalist who posted a photograph of her at a welcome function in Dublin, calling him a “sick, deluded freak” and noting that presidents do travel with staff.
A Fake Photograph Goes Viral
The rumor mill produced something cruder three days later. On September 16 two artificial intelligence images purporting to show Trump and Harp together on a golf course spread across social media. Snopes found the higher-resolution version carried a watermark identifying it as machine-generated, and a reverse image search traced the blurrier one to a YouTube thumbnail for a video by political commentator Keith Edwards, who disavowed responsibility, telling Snopes: “My thumbnail team found the image online.” In a separate statement to Snopes, he added, “Given that only the back of her head is visible, I don’t think her identity can be confirmed from this image alone.” One version also gave the woman six fingers. A White House official called it “clearly a fake photo.”
