The entertainment world is mourning Christy Knowings, the former “All That” cast member who died at 46 following complications from a severe asthma attack. Knowings was taken off life support at a Los Angeles-area hospital on August 11, 2026, after a decision by her family.
The actress had been hospitalized on August 7, when the asthma attack caused brain damage. She was placed on life support but ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
Tyleah Joseph, Knowings’ aunt, shared the news via Facebook on August 12, sparking an outpouring of tributes from fellow performers and fans alike.
Co-Stars Remember a Comedy Trailblazer
Comedian Kenan Thompson, now a longtime “Saturday Night Live” cast member who worked with Knowings during her “All That” tenure, shared an emotional tribute on Instagram on August 13.
“Man this one hit hard!!! Rest well Christy!!! Never could have imagined this day!! Sending so much love to her family!! She was a real one and one of the funniest people out here!!! Gonna miss you buddy!!!” Thompson wrote.
He also used Facebook to encourage followers to visit her page and show their support.
Actor Kel Mitchell added his own Instagram tribute, writing in part: “Christy was truly one of a kind. 🫶🏽🕊️ So naturally funny, incredibly talented, and fearless when it came to comedy. She had a gift for creating characters that were big, memorable, and completely her own. Your talent, your characters, and the joy you brought to so many will never be forgotten.”
A Nickelodeon Star Who Left Her Mark
Knowings joined the iconic Nickelodeon sketch series in 1997 for its fourth season, arriving alongside actors Leon Frierson and Danny Tamberelli. She became part of an ensemble that featured Thompson, actress Amanda Bynes, and performers including Mitchell, Lori Beth Denberg, Josh Server, and future cast additions Nick Cannon and Gabriel Iglesias.
Her path to “All That” began with the pilot for “And Now This,” a Nickelodeon sketch-comedy special featuring Rosie O’Donnell.
From 1997 to 2000, she was a main cast member, creating memorable recurring characters including Penny Lane, news anchor Brenda Stone and Jessica in the popular “Whateverrr!!!” sketches she performed opposite Bynes. She also returned for a green-room cameo in the show’s 10th anniversary reunion special in 2005.
Speaking with Occhi Magazine in 2019, she recalled her time on the program fondly. “Being on ‘All That’ was definitely an incredible experience,” she told the publication. She spoke about feeling proud to have contributed to something iconic that brought joy to countless viewers, and mentioned that fans regularly approached her to share how much her work had meant to them.
Creative Pursuits After Nickelodeon
Following her departure from “All That,” Knowings took a step back from Hollywood but continued pursuing artistic endeavors. She made three appearances on “Sesame Street” with her twin brother, Chris Knowings, who had appeared in Nickelodeon programs including “Taina” and “The Nick Cannon Show.”
In later years, she continued releasing music, including a folk single called “To the World” in 2020.
Al Hill, her manager, offered a statement to Variety honoring her talents. “Christy was a multi-talented lady,” Hill said. “Whether it was singing, acting, dancing, she was always creating. Always professional and dedicated to her work.”
Weeks before her death, Knowings appeared as a special guest at the Black Beat Magazine Relaunch event during BET weekend in June. She posted on Instagram June 28 that she was “honored” to be part of the event.
A Painful Year for the “All That” Family
Knowings becomes the second former “All That” performer to die in 2026. Kianna Underwood, another alumna, was killed at 33 in a Brooklyn hit-and-run in January.
The back-to-back losses have brought profound sorrow to a community connected by a show that defined childhood for millions of viewers during the 1990s and early 2000s.
In her 2019 Occhi Magazine interview, Knowings acknowledged the lasting impact of her work, noting how fans continued reaching out decades later to express what her presence on screen had meant to them — a testament she clearly treasured.
Funeral arrangements have not been made public.
