Reality Star Dies by Suicide at 67

Federal investigators had been looking into the cyberbullying case involving “Storage Wars” star Darrell Sheets in the months before he died April 22 at 67, according to police body camera footage. In January 2026, Sheets told a Lake Havasu police officer he was in touch with the FBI about his cyberbullying case and had an FBI agent assigned to his case.

The FBI agent told Sheets the case “could take a month or eight years” and described it as “microscopic compared to what we’re looking at,” according to body camera footage.

The medical examiner ruled Sheets’ death a suicide, and police found “no evidence or information to suggest the death was due to anything other than what was listed in the medical examiner report.”

A handwritten suicide note recovered by the Lake Havasu City Police Department from a basket inside a bathroom closet pointed directly to online harassment. The note read, in part, “I could not take anymore the Facebook bulling, f*** you [redacted],” police said. Authorities concluded Sheets died of “what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.”

Police reviewed Sheets’ cell phone and found “he was struggling with numerous things,” according to a police report. His son Brandon visited days before his death, and Sheets was described as “devastated” after Brandon left.

What Happened That Night

Sheets’ girlfriend told investigators that the night of April 22 unfolded as many before it had. Chronic stress had left him unable to sleep for months, she explained, and that final night was no exception. He complained that he could not rest and eventually left his bed, moving to a spot near his home office.

In his final moments, Sheets was not alone. His girlfriend discovered him in the doorway of his home office, a handgun pressed to his head. She pleaded with him not to hurt himself. He told her to go back to bed. She was backing away when she heard the shot.

The pattern of sleeplessness driven by stress, she told authorities, had been ongoing and had intensified in the time before his death.

The Discovery and Investigation

Investigators found the note tucked in a bathroom closet basket near where Sheets’ body was discovered, along with the explicit reference to Facebook bullying.

Details from the police incident report emerged more than two months after Sheets’ death. Police records revealing the information were reported widely beginning July 8, 2026.

A Beloved Reality Television Figure

Sheets spent years as one of the most recognizable personalities on “Storage Wars,” the A&E competition series following buyers bidding on abandoned storage unit contents. His expertise and charisma made him a fan favorite, and news of his passing in April prompted an outpouring of grief from viewers and fellow cast members.

The release of new details from the police report reignited that grief with a clearer picture of the private anguish he faced. The explicit mention of social media harassment in his suicide note has drawn renewed attention to the destructive toll cyberbullying can exact on public figures, who often appear insulated from ordinary pressures but may face amplified exposure to online cruelty.

His girlfriend’s account to investigators described months of mounting pressure. Stress-induced insomnia had plagued him for an extended period, not just in the days before April 22, suggesting Sheets had been enduring significant internal turmoil that those around him may not have fully grasped.
