King Charles Cuts Ties With Prince Harry in Shocking Move

The monarch is no longer taking phone calls or responding to written correspondence from his younger son, according to an exclusive report in People magazine. The publication, which maintains strong sources close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, reveals the complete breakdown in father-son relations.

This total severance of private contact means Harry now must turn to public media coverage to track his father’s ongoing cancer battle. The 76-year-old king and his younger son last spoke face-to-face in February 2024, when Harry rushed to see Charles following the cancer diagnosis announcement. Queen Camilla, toward whom Harry has openly expressed little affection, was present during that brief encounter, People magazine reports.

Since that February meeting, no private father-son conversations have taken place whatsoever. “I don’t think there is any rapprochement… Nothing has changed,” one palace source told People, while another characterized the relationship as “distant.”

The communication breakdown escalated after Harry publicly criticized the royal family with accusations that they removed his security to “control” him and “trap” him and Meghan in the UK. This security fight has emerged as the central battleground in the conflict.

Sources close to the royal family indicate King Charles is purposefully maintaining distance to avoid entanglement in Harry’s ongoing legal battle with the UK government over security arrangements. Harry maintains that Charles could easily intervene to restore his state-funded security, which was removed after he stepped back from royal duties, but the king has chosen to stay out of the matter entirely.

The emotional gap between father and son has expanded since Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020. What was once described as a close bond in the years following Princess Diana’s death—with Charles often portrayed as a devoted father working hard to maintain strong relationships with both sons despite public scrutiny and the demands of royal life—has deteriorated into complete estrangement.

Prince William, heir to the throne, has similarly rejected Harry’s attempts at contact. Friends of William report that he carries deep resentment toward his brother over perceived betrayals of trust, particularly after Harry’s memoir “Spare,” which included unflattering portrayals of both William and his wife, Kate Middleton.

Harry’s attempt at an olive branch during a recent UK visit—staying near William’s home in what sources called a reconciliation gesture—went unacknowledged by his brother. Harry has expressed that he wants his children, Archie and Lilibet, to connect with their British roots and heritage, but the security concerns that sparked the initial rift continue blocking any path to family reconciliation.

Tensions escalated further this week when Meghan angered traditionalists by posting a message from the Vice President of Ukraine addressing her as “Your Royal Highness,” a title the couple agreed to stop using following the so-called “Sandringham Summit.”

While King Charles has generally taken a relaxed attitude toward such violations of their agreement, sources say Prince William takes a much harder line. Reports suggest William wants the couple dealt with “more harshly” and could potentially strip them of their titles entirely when he eventually becomes king.

Harry’s surprise visit to Ukraine last week to meet with wounded soldiers in the war zone has added another layer of complication to family dynamics. The trip reportedly left Prince William “frustrated and fuming” at palace officials, since William had long hoped to make a similar trip but was denied permission due to security concerns.

The decision to cut off communication with Harry may carry financial implications as well. Reports suggest King Charles is facing pressure from family members and courtiers to cut Prince Harry out of his will as the rift deepens. Prince William is reportedly advocating for this change to prevent Harry from inheriting part of the monarchy’s substantial wealth, which is estimated at $34 billion.

Trust remains a major hurdle to any potential reconciliation between Harry and the senior members of the royal family. Sources familiar with the situation indicate there appears to be little appetite for reconciliation on either side at present.
