President Donald Trump sparked widespread confusion and concern Friday morning with a cryptic all-caps message posted to Truth Social that offered no context or explanation for its ominous tone.
The 79-year-old president wrote simply: “WORLD’S MOST POWERFUL RESET!!! President DJT.”
The bizarre post arrived as Trump faces mounting pressure over his deeply unpopular Iran war and a fragile ceasefire arrangement that appears to be unraveling just days after the president declared it a “total and complete victory.” The two-week pause in hostilities, announced on April 8, was brokered by Pakistan after weeks of devastating U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran that killed thousands of civilians and pushed the region to the brink of nuclear conflict.
Trump’s Friday morning message followed a chaotic Thursday that saw the president share an extremely violent video of a Haitian immigrant beating a woman to death with a hammer, post threats about Iran’s control of the Strait of Hormuz, and launch a 482-word tirade against prominent MAGA influencers who have turned against him over the war.
The proposed two-week ceasefire deal with Iran has already hit major obstacles. Despite the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz being a key condition of the agreement, Iran has kept the crucial shipping route effectively closed days after the ceasefire was announced. About 25% of the world’s seaborne oil trade and 20% of global liquefied natural gas normally passes through the narrow waterway between Iran and Oman. By April 9, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company CEO Sultan Al Jaber confirmed the strait remained closed, with 230 loaded oil tankers waiting inside the Gulf.
Adding to the complications, Tehran is reportedly weighing charging vessels a toll to pass through the Strait—an arrangement that did not exist before Trump initiated the multibillion-dollar Middle East conflict in late February.
“There are reports that Iran is charging fees to tankers going through the Hormuz Strait—They better not be and, if they are, they better stop now,” Trump posted on Truth Social on Thursday, hinting at the possibility of violating his own ceasefire deal.
Trump’s decision to share graphic footage of a fatal hammer attack drew particular criticism. The video showed Haitian immigrant Rolbert Joachin repeatedly striking Nilufa Easmin, a 51-year-old Bangladeshi mother of two who worked as a gas station clerk in Fort Myers, Florida. Joachin, 40, was arrested for the April 3 killing. According to the Department of Homeland Security, he first entered the U.S. in August 2022, was issued a removal order, but was granted Temporary Protected Status that later expired.
Trump claimed he had an “obligation” to share the disturbing footage “so that people can see what Democrats are protecting, and wanting to come into our Country.” The post echoed his debunked claims from the 2024 campaign that Haitians in Springfield, Ohio, were eating people’s cats and dogs—a conspiracy theory that Springfield police, the city’s Republican mayor, and Ohio’s Republican governor all confirmed had no credible evidence behind it.
The president’s late-night Thursday rant targeted high-profile MAGA figures Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones, all of whom have publicly criticized the Iran war. Trump attacked them in unusually personal terms, going after their intelligence, professional credentials, and families. He called Carlson a “Hand Flailing Fool” who “couldn’t even finish College,” labeled Owens “crazy,” and dismissed all four as “NUT JOBS” with “Third Rate Podcasts.”
The four commentators hit back hard. Owens posted a screenshot of Trump’s rant and wrote, “It may be time to put Grandpa up in a home.” Jones declared on his show that Trump was exhibiting “dementia” and called for the 25th Amendment to be invoked. Kelly said on her podcast she was “sick of this s—” after Trump threatened to destroy an “entire civilization.”
The fracturing of Trump’s relationship with once-loyal MAGA influencers represents a dramatic shift in the political landscape. These figures helped propel Trump’s political rise and defended him through numerous controversies, but the Iran conflict has become a breaking point for many in his base who believed Trump’s “no new wars” promises from the 2024 campaign.
Trump’s erratic social media behavior has also included recent attacks on California Governor Gavin Newsom, whom Trump has labeled “Newscum” and mocked for his dyslexia. The president has even suggested Newsom’s learning disability should disqualify him from seeking the presidency in 2028. Newsom has responded by calling Trump a “brain-dead moron who bombs children” and criticizing his administration’s handling of the Iran war and subsequent gas price spikes.
Trump’s Friday morning “reset” message offered no clarity on what he meant or what changes might be coming. The post arrived on the same day as March CPI data showed the largest gasoline price spike since 1967—a direct consequence of the Strait of Hormuz closure that Trump’s war triggered. Some analysts interpreted the cryptic message as an attempt to frame the troubled ceasefire and its aftermath as a broader American strategic success, but the president provided no follow-up posts to explain the statement.
The chaotic 24-hour period underscores the volatility surrounding Trump’s presidency as he navigates an unpopular foreign conflict, rebellion within his own political base, and ongoing feuds with political opponents. With the ceasefire deal showing signs of collapse, gas prices soaring, and MAGA influencers turning against him, Trump appears increasingly isolated even as he declares victory.
