Angelina Jolie Considering Move Abroad Over Trump

Angelina Jolie is getting ready to leave Los Angeles behind, planning to move overseas once her youngest children officially become adults this summer. The actress and humanitarian has stated she no longer feels connected to the United States, offering sharp criticism of the country’s current state.

The 50-year-old has intended to leave Los Angeles for years but stayed due to custody obligations involving her ex-husband, Brad Pitt. When the twins, Vivienne and Knox, turn 18 on July 12, 2026, they will reach legal adulthood, finally enabling the international relocation she has long considered.

A source stated that Jolie never wanted to reside in Los Angeles permanently and remained there only because of the custody agreement with Pitt. With her youngest nearing adulthood, she is exploring several possible destinations abroad and will be thrilled once she can depart the city, the source said.

Her plans to leave include preparing to list her Los Angeles residence for sale. She bought the historic property in 2017 for $24.5 million. The expansive 11,000-square-foot estate contains six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms and is considered a standout property in the city.

The home is steeped in Hollywood history. Director Cecil B. DeMille purchased the estate in 1916 and lived there for nearly 40 years until his death in 1959. Charlie Chaplin once lived in the neighboring house, which DeMille later acquired and merged into the current estate, creating a single property with strong ties to Hollywood’s early era.

While attending the San Sebastián Film Festival in Spain in September 2024 to promote her films, Jolie made remarks that captured her feelings about the United States. She said that although she loves her country, she no longer recognizes it.

During the festival, Jolie further discussed her views, explaining that she sees the world through an equal, unified, and global lens. She stressed that anything anywhere that restricts or divides personal freedoms or self-expression is extremely dangerous.

Jolie has maintained a globally oriented lifestyle throughout her career, with friends and family situated around the world. Her unease with Los Angeles is tied not only to political issues but also to broader concerns about her children’s well-being. In a 2024 interview, she noted that with a large family, privacy, peace, and safety become top priorities.

After moving abroad, Jolie confirmed that she intends to spend considerable time in Cambodia and will travel to visit loved ones wherever they are. Cambodia holds deep sentimental value for her, as it is where she adopted her oldest son, Maddox, in 2002.

Jolie explained that Cambodia opened her eyes to the refugee crisis and played a crucial role in making her a mother.

She recalled an experience in 2001 while participating in a school program in Samlout, sitting on the floor playing blocks with a child, when she suddenly felt her son was there. Months later, she met Maddox in an orphanage. Jolie considers Cambodia the place that holds her heart.

In 2003, Jolie purchased a home in Cambodia, strengthening her bond with the country that shaped her life and career. During her relationship with Pitt, she later adopted Zahara and Pax, who were also adopted by Pitt. The former couple also share three biological children: Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox.

Jolie and Pitt finalized their divorce settlement in December 2024, ending an eight-year divorce process that began when they separated in September 2016.

The actress has been vocal about U.S. policy in the past. Her humanitarian work, which has taken her to conflict zones and refugee camps globally, has shaped her international perspective and reinforced her belief in shared human responsibility across borders.

When discussing adoption, Jolie has repeatedly emphasized that her choices stemmed from personal conviction rather than public image. She has said that as a child, she knew many kids lacked parents and always envisioned adopting. She views adoption not as a sacrifice but as a blessing, believing everyone involved is fortunate.

Jolie once reflected on how her diverse family offers perspectives she and Pitt needed decades to learn. Looking at Shiloh, who physically resembles both parents as children, she wondered how much her kids would grasp by age six that took her and Pitt into their 30s and 40s to understand. She said she aims to give her children the upbringing she always longed for.

With the twins nearing adulthood, Jolie’s long-postponed plans to live internationally are finally progressing. Sources say she is getting ready to complete minor updates to her historic Los Angeles mansion before listing it. The move symbolizes more than a relocation; it represents a major shift in how one of Hollywood’s most recognizable figures chooses to live.

As July approaches, Jolie seems prepared to close her chapter in Los Angeles for good. Leaving will end a Hollywood residence she maintained mostly due to legal requirements rather than personal desire, allowing her to finally pursue the globally focused life she has long imagined for herself and her family.
