Young Rap Star Dies Suddenly at 26

Rapper POORSTACY, whose legal name was Carlito Milfort, has died at the age of 26, according to confirmation from the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner. The Boca Raton Police Department reported that the young artist died early Saturday, November 30, 2025, in Boca Raton, Florida.

According to a hotel worker who spoke with TMZ, POORSTACY was transported to a local hospital for a medical emergency on Saturday morning. The rapper had been staying at the hotel for 10 days and had checked in with a woman and a toddler. He was the only person hospitalized from the incident, and no one else was reported injured.

The cause of death remains unclear as authorities continue their investigation. However, social media comments on POORSTACY’s most recent Instagram post suggest that some believe he may have died by suicide. As TMZ reported, “folks leaving comments on POORSTACY’s most recent Instagram post are indicating they are under the belief he may have died by suicide.” The Palm Beach County Medical Examiner has not released an official cause of death at this time.

POORSTACY emerged from Palm Beach, Florida, as an up-and-coming artist who carved out a distinctive niche in the music industry by blending emo rap, punk rock, and punk rap genres. This fusion of musical styles attracted a dedicated following and helped him stand out in an increasingly crowded hip-hop landscape. His unique sound bridged multiple musical communities and demonstrated the evolving nature of contemporary rap music.

Among his most notable achievements was a feature on the “Bill and Ted Face the Music” movie soundtrack, which earned a Grammy nomination. This accomplishment marked a significant milestone in his career and brought his music to a wider audience beyond his core fanbase. The soundtrack’s recognition by the Recording Academy validated his artistic approach and positioned him as a rising talent in the industry.

POORSTACY also collaborated with renowned drummer Travis Barker on three songs throughout his career. Barker, known for his work with Blink-182 and numerous collaborations across genres, has been instrumental in supporting emerging artists who blend punk and hip-hop elements. According to TMZ, their most prominent collaboration was “POORSTACY and Travis actually worked together on three songs … and the biggest one is called ‘Choose Life.'” The song showcased the synergy between POORSTACY’s vocal style and Barker’s signature drumming.

The rapper’s death comes at a time when mental health awareness in the music industry has become increasingly important. Many artists have spoken openly about the pressures of fame, the challenges of maintaining creative output, and the emotional toll of public life. The music community has seen numerous losses in recent years, prompting conversations about the support systems available to performers.

POORSTACY’s genre-blending approach represented a broader trend in contemporary music where traditional boundaries between styles continue to dissolve. Emo rap, which combines the emotional intensity of emo music with hip-hop production and delivery, has grown significantly in popularity over the past decade. Artists working in this space often address themes of mental health, relationships, and personal struggle in their music.

The circumstances surrounding his death in Boca Raton raise questions about what occurred during his 10-day hotel stay. Law enforcement has not released additional details about the medical emergency that led to his hospitalization or whether any investigation is ongoing. The presence of a woman and toddler who checked in with him adds complexity to the situation, though authorities have not identified these individuals or provided information about their relationship to the rapper.

POORSTACY’s collaborations with established artists like Travis Barker suggested a promising trajectory for his career. Such partnerships often serve as launching pads for emerging talent, providing exposure to new audiences and credibility within the industry. His ability to secure these opportunities at a young age indicated both his talent and the respect he had garnered from more established musicians.

The loss of an artist at 26 years old represents not only a personal tragedy but also the loss of potential future contributions to music and culture. POORSTACY was still developing his sound and building his career, making his death particularly poignant for fans who were following his artistic evolution. His work demonstrated an artist willing to take risks and challenge conventional genre definitions.

As news of his death spreads through the music community and among his fanbase, many are reflecting on his artistic contributions and the impact of his genre-blending approach. The circumstances of his death serve as a reminder of the importance of mental health resources and support systems, particularly for young artists navigating the pressures of the music industry.
