President Donald Trump has sparked discussions about a potential political future for his children, suggesting a Trump dynasty extending beyond his current tenure in the White House.
In an interview on Miranda Devine’s podcast, “Pod Force One,” released on June 11, 2025, Trump stated he believes all of his children likely have a future in politics. When asked about his eldest son running for president, Trump commended each child individually, describing Donald Trump Jr. as a good person and an outdoorsman, and Eric Trump as having done a fantastic job.
Eric Trump, 41, has been vocal about his presidential ambitions. As co-executive vice president of the Trump Organization, he told the Financial Times in July that a political path would be manageable for family members and suggested that others could follow. However, he also acknowledged the personal challenges of public life, questioning whether he would want his children to have similar experiences. During the Bitcoin Asia 2025 conference in Hong Kong on August 29, Eric told Nikkei Asia that he would never rule out a presidential run, but he’s neither saying yes nor no. He also expressed dissatisfaction with current politicians, telling the Financial Times he is unimpressed by many in office and believes he could perform effectively.
Donald Trump Jr., 47, has gained traction among younger voters despite stating no interest in running for office. A YouGov survey indicated over 25 percent of Republicans and right-leaning independents under 30 favor Trump Jr. as their choice for the Republican ticket in 2028. Additionally, 53 percent of voters aged 18 to 29 and 55 percent aged 30 to 44 said they would consider voting for him in the primary. Despite these figures, Trump Jr. has posted on social media that he has no interest in running in 2028. He hosts the podcast “Triggered” With Don Jr., focusing on political discussions.
Donald Jr. and Eric were influential in President Trump’s decision to choose Senator JD Vance of Ohio as his vice-presidential running mate. Initially leaning towards North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Trump was persuaded by his sons to select Vance. Ivanka Trump, 43, and Jared Kushner, who served as White House advisers during Trump’s first term, have exited politics. In 2022, Ivanka announced her decision to prioritize her children and family life, stating she would not engage in political activities.
Barron Trump, 19, studying at New York University’s Stern School of Business, has become an unexpected influence on his father’s political strategy. President Trump credited Barron with suggesting appearances on podcasts targeting younger male audiences, including “The Joe Rogan Experience,” “This Past Weekend with Theo Von,” and Logan Paul’s “Impaulsive.” Barron was also involved in the cryptocurrency venture World Liberty Financial, launched in September 2024, serving as an ambassador alongside his brothers. Many Republicans see Barron as a potential future political figure due to his understanding of youth culture and digital finance.
The idea of a Trump political dynasty faces competition from other Republicans. Vice President JD Vance leads polls as the preferred 2028 candidate, with 42 percent of Republicans and right-leaning independents supporting him. Donald Trump Jr. follows with 13 percent support, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis with 7 percent, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio with 5 percent. LBC US politics reporter Simon Marks noted that the family seems to aspire to a dynasty, which could raise challenges for Vance in 2028. Marks added that while Don Jr. might be more inclined to run, Eric Trump might be more appealing to voters, depending on the success of President Trump’s second term as the 2027 primaries approach.
Eric Trump is currently a trustee and executive vice president of the Trump Organization. His wife, Lara Trump, a former co-chair of the Republican National Committee, now hosts “My View with Lara Trump” on Fox News. Trump family members and allies had encouraged Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to appoint Lara Trump to the Senate seat vacated by Marco Rubio when he became Secretary of State, but DeSantis chose Ashley Moody.
When asked whether 2024 would be the last Trump-family election, Eric said he was uncertain, suggesting time would reveal the answer and noting that more family members could be involved. The Trump Organization’s value is estimated between $8 billion and $12 billion, while President Trump’s stake in Trump Media & Technology Group is valued at $2 billion.
