According to Calmelat, one passenger vehicle ignited upon impact, producing a large fireball that rose into the sky. KTLA footage displayed the extensive damage, including one vehicle so severely burned and twisted that its make or model was unidentifiable by investigators.
Medical teams declared three people deceased at the scene. Four additional individuals were taken to local hospitals, but the California Highway Patrol has not disclosed the severity of their injuries or their current conditions.
