Mass Shooting at Casino: 2 Dead, 5 Wounded

Two people were killed and five others injured in a shooting at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino in Eagle Pass, Texas, on Saturday, September 27, 2025, prompting a multi-agency investigation and the arrest of a San Antonio man.

The Maverick County Sheriff’s Office responded to the casino at approximately 11:45 p.m., assisting tribal police in securing the area after gunshots were reported. The shooting occurred during a raffle event that had drawn a large crowd to the facility on the Kickapoo reservation.

Keryan Rashad Jones, 34, of San Antonio, was arrested Sunday morning following a pursuit by authorities near Stockdale in Wilson County, approximately 180 miles east of Eagle Pass. Jones faces two counts of capital murder and five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held on a $4.5 million bond in the Maverick County jail.

The victims have been identified as Marcus “Mark” Antley, a retired U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent who died at the scene, and Alicia “Daniela” Sanchez, 32, of Carrizo Springs, who died while being transported to the hospital. Antley had served for more than 20 years in law enforcement and was described by Eagle Pass Mayor Aaron Valdez as someone who dedicated much of his life to public service.

Five others were airlifted in critical condition to San Antonio hospitals after being struck by gunfire. University Hospital confirmed treating two victims: a 22-year-old woman who was later released and a 59-year-old woman listed in serious condition as of Monday evening. The conditions of the other three injured individuals have not been disclosed.

According to Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber, Jones had been inside the casino late Saturday night before walking out to his car and returning to open fire near the entrance. Authorities have not yet determined a motive for the shooting. The suspect was captured on casino surveillance cameras before fleeing the scene.

Jones fled in a black Nissan Frontier and was tracked through his vehicle to a Circle K in Stockdale around 7:40 a.m. Sunday. Texas Department of Public Safety troopers attempted to stop Jones by firing at his vehicle. He was eventually taken into custody after a PIT maneuver disabled the truck, and troopers deployed a Taser. A firearm was also recovered during the arrest.

Witnesses described chaos as people tried to escape the casino after hearing gunshots. One bullet struck an entrance door, and another hit a slot machine inside the facility. Rachel Palacios, who was at the casino during the shooting, told authorities she immediately recognized the loud bangs as gunshots and ran to hide in a closet before eventually escaping the building with her husband.

Among those most affected by the tragedy is Margarita Antley, Mark Antley’s wife of 47 years, who was injured in the shooting and received about 12 stitches after a bullet passed through her leg. Margarita Antley recounted the final moments, saying “babe, wake up” as she called for help after her husband was shot.

The Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Police Department is leading the investigation, receiving support from the Texas Rangers, Texas Department of Public Safety, and FBI San Antonio teams.

Sources indicate Jones previously served in the National Guard and was once stationed in Arizona. The shooting has prompted responses from local and state officials, with Maverick County Judge Ramsey English Cantú expressing grief over the incident and emphasizing that violence will not be tolerated in the community.

The Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino released a statement expressing heartbreak over the tragic events and extending condolences to the victims and their families. The facility, which features more than 3,300 slot machines, live poker, bingo, multiple restaurants and bars, and a 249-room hotel, operates on reservation land near the Rio Grande.

Multiple law enforcement agencies continue investigating the shooting, including the Kickapoo Tribal Police, Maverick County Sheriff’s Office, Eagle Pass Police Department, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Texas Department of Public Safety, and the FBI’s Del Rio office. Authorities are asking anyone who was at the casino and may have photos, video, or information about the shooting to contact the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office.
