Dylan Walsh, the actor best known for his role on the medical drama “Nip/Tuck,” was involved in a serious car accident with his family in Rumson, New Jersey, on Sunday, August 17, 2025. The crash sent two passengers to the hospital and resulted in significant damage to the vehicle and surrounding infrastructure.
The accident occurred around 5 p.m. when Walsh was driving a 2022 Ford Explorer carrying five passengers northbound on East River Road. According to police reports, the vehicle suddenly veered into the southbound lane before striking the first utility pole. The SUV continued moving northbound and collided with a second utility pole before coming to a stop.
Lieutenant Christopher Isherwood of the Rumson Police Department confirmed that the vehicle broke through one utility pole before continuing northbound and damaging another. Two of the five passengers in the vehicle complained of pain following the crash and were transported to Riverview Medical Center for treatment.
Photos of the accident scene showed extensive damage to the front of the Ford Explorer, with both front airbags deployed and a major dent in the trunk area. The impact was severe enough to cause a power outage affecting eight residents in the surrounding area, though electricity was later restored after Jersey Central Power & Light replaced the damaged utility poles.
Walsh was subsequently issued several motor vehicle summonses following the accident, though police have not disclosed the specific infractions cited. The road remained closed through Tuesday morning while utility crews worked to replace the damaged poles and clear debris from the scene.
A representative for Walsh confirmed the accident and provided an update on the family’s condition. Walsh’s rep told E! News, “Thankfully, everyone is safe and has since returned home.” The family expressed deep gratitude for the swift response of the Rumson Police, Fire Department, and EMS, as well as the staff at Riverview Medical Center for their care.
The representative also extended special thanks to the management and staff of The River Point Inn for their support in the immediate aftermath of the crash. It remains unclear who specifically required hospital treatment or the extent of any injuries sustained.
Walsh’s wife, Leslie Bourque-Walsh, addressed the incident in posts on her Facebook page that have since been deleted. She confirmed the family was involved in the accident while en route to a family breakfast and thanked first responders for their quick assistance. Bourque-Walsh noted that while the family was bruised from seatbelts, they were grateful for the safety features that saved their lives.
In a separate post, she paid tribute to their damaged Ford Explorer, describing how the vehicle had taken the family on memorable road trips from Vancouver, British Columbia, to their home in New Jersey. She acknowledged that while it was just a car, many family memories were attached to the vehicle.
The 61-year-old actor and his wife share two children: 13-year-old daughter Amelie Belle and 12-year-old son Hudson Scott. Walsh also has adult children from previous marriages, including daughter Stella with ex-wife Joanna Going, and son Thomas and daughter Joanna with his first wife, Melora Walters. It remains unclear which family members were in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Walsh gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Dr. Sean McNamara on the FX drama “Nip/Tuck” alongside the late Julian McMahon from 2003 to 2010. The show, created by Ryan Murphy, focused on a plastic surgery practice and ran for six seasons. More recently, Walsh has appeared in television series including “Superman & Lois” as General Sam Lane and “Blue Bloods” as Mayor Pete Chase.
The accident comes just over a month after Walsh’s “Nip/Tuck” co-star Julian McMahon died following a private battle with cancer at age 56. McMahon’s death was announced by his wife in July, and Walsh had paid tribute to his former colleague and friend following the loss.
The Rumson Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the single-vehicle accident. The intersection where the crash occurred has since reopened to traffic following the completion of utility repairs and debris removal.
Walsh and his family have returned home following their medical evaluation and treatment. The actor’s representative emphasized the family’s appreciation for the professional response from local emergency services and medical personnel who assisted at the scene and provided subsequent care.
