Basketball Star’s Father Stabs Coach 25 Times

Quenton Marselles Brown, the father of Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder following a stabbing incident in Las Vegas on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. The 57-year-old was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Thursday morning with bail set at $300,000.

The incident occurred at All American Park on South Buffalo Drive just before 6 p.m. local time. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to reports of a stabbing and found a male victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was immediately transported to a nearby hospital and listed in critical condition.

Police reports indicate the altercation began as a dispute over a parking space when Brown allegedly opened his passenger door and dinged the victim’s vehicle. Witnesses told investigators that Brown, who is described as seven feet tall and weighing 300 pounds, confronted the victim aggressively after the man got out to check for damage. The verbal confrontation quickly escalated when the victim’s girlfriend witnessed her boyfriend slap the side mirror of Brown’s SUV.

According to witness statements in the police report, the dispute turned violent when Brown pulled out what appeared to be a knife. One witness told police that Brown “swung his knife 25 times” at the victim. The victim and his girlfriend managed to drive away from the scene and waited in a different location for first responders to arrive.

Brown initially fled the scene but was located and arrested a short distance away. He made his first court appearance on Thursday afternoon and is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday. His defense attorney indicated that Brown was acting in self-defense and had been attacked first.

The victim, identified as Cross Tupoula, is a youth football coach in the Las Vegas area. According to medical reports provided to police, Tupoula sustained severe injuries including a stab wound to the middle of his back, wounds to his upper right chest clavicle area, and a defensive wound to his left hand that penetrated to his tendons. He also suffered a slice wound requiring a partial gastrectomy to remove part of his digestive system, eviscerated bowels, and a broken right rib that may require surgery to repair.

Tupoula’s youth football team has launched a fundraiser to help cover medical expenses and physical therapy costs. The coach’s family has provided updates indicating he is recovering from surgery, though his injuries remain serious.

Quenton Marselles Brown, who goes by his middle name, is a retired professional boxer who made his debut in 1989 and compiled a career record of 33-18-1. Despite sharing the same middle name, reports suggest that Marselles Brown and his NBA star son do not maintain a close relationship.

Jaylen Brown, 28, has been a cornerstone of the Boston Celtics since being drafted in the first round in 2016. The four-time NBA All-Star was named Finals MVP in 2024 when the Celtics captured their 18th NBA championship. Last season, he averaged 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game.

The Celtics organization has been contacted for comment regarding the arrest but has not yet issued a public statement. The incident has drawn significant attention given Jaylen Brown’s prominence as one of the league’s top players and his recent championship success.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police continue to investigate the incident while Brown remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center. The case highlights the serious nature of the charges, with attempted murder carrying significant potential penalties under Nevada law.

The stabbing occurred before a scheduled youth football practice at the park, adding another layer of concern for the local community where Tupoula serves as a coach. Witnesses at the scene provided crucial testimony that led to Brown’s arrest and the attempted murder charges.

As the legal proceedings move forward, both the victim’s recovery and the resolution of the criminal case will be closely watched given the high-profile nature of the defendant’s family connection to professional sports.
