Khadiyah “KD” Lewis, a former star of the VH1 reality series “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta,” died on May 30 at age 44, according to family members who confirmed her passing this week.
Lewis’s brother Jamaal Lewis, also known as Jay, confirmed the news to The Shade Room on June 5. He described the situation as an extremely emotionally devastating time and expressed appreciation for prayers, condolences, and well wishes. The family has not disclosed a cause of death and has requested privacy regarding the circumstances surrounding her passing.
In a heartfelt tribute posted on Facebook on June 2, Lewis’s younger brother Elijah Inegbedion wrote about struggling to find words to describe his sister and the legacy she left behind. Inegbedion indicated that she “left behind a legacy most individuals can only dream of” and expressed gratitude for how she loved and supported him throughout his life as her baby brother.
Born on March 31, 1981, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Lewis gained national recognition through her appearances on “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” during seasons three and four. She initially appeared in season three as rapper Yung Joc’s real estate agent before their professional relationship developed into a romantic one that became a central storyline on the show.
Lewis returned as a supporting cast member in season four, with her relationship with Yung Joc continuing to feature prominently. However, by season five, the couple had reportedly ended their relationship, with sources citing alleged infidelity and complications involving the mothers of Yung Joc’s children as contributing factors to their breakup.
Beyond her reality television career, Lewis established herself as a successful entrepreneur and business professional. She described herself on social media as an entrepreneur, speaker, consultant, accountant, and brand ambassador. Lewis owned three separate businesses: a real estate investment firm, a consulting agency, and a financial services company.
Lewis was a graduate of North Springs High School in Atlanta and later earned a degree from Florida A&M University. She worked as a business and tax consultant, utilizing her educational background and entrepreneurial skills to build multiple successful ventures in the Atlanta area.
According to her online obituary, Lewis will be laid to rest in her birthplace of Oklahoma City. A funeral service is scheduled for June 14 at 10 a.m. at Earl M. Temple Memorial Chapel in Oklahoma City. The family is also organizing a virtual memorial service via Zoom on the same date to allow those who wish to honor her life from afar to participate.
Lewis is survived by her parents, Debra Body and David Clark Lewis Jr., along with her siblings: sisters Rasheedah Lewis and Nia T. Hill, and brothers Jamaal Lewis and Ahmedu Elijah Inegbedion. Her obituary described her as a mentor to many, offering guidance and support to those aspiring to succeed in the business world.
The Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed to media outlets that Lewis was not a medical examiner case, indicating they have no further information regarding her death. This suggests her passing did not fall under circumstances that would typically require a medical examiner’s investigation.
Fans of “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” remembered Lewis for her professional demeanor and business acumen displayed during her time on the show. Many recalled her initial introduction as Yung Joc’s real estate agent, where she demonstrated her expertise in property sales and investment. Her relationship with Yung Joc became particularly memorable among viewers, especially during storylines involving conflicts with other cast members.
Lewis maintained a relatively low public profile in recent years, with her last social media post dating back to 2018. Her professional website is no longer operational, and she had stepped away from the reality television spotlight following her appearances on the VH1 series.
The family’s statement emphasized their desire to celebrate Lewis’s life rather than focus on the circumstances of her death. They expressed hope that the virtual memorial service would provide an opportunity for the many people whose lives she touched to honor her memory and legacy in the business and entertainment communities.
