Mass Shooting Shatters Restaurant: 3 Dead, 5 Injured

Three individuals were killed and five more were injured following a shooting at a Cinco de Mayo event in Glendale, Arizona, on Sunday evening, May 4, 2025. The incident occurred at El Camaron Gigante, a seafood restaurant and steakhouse, around 7:45 p.m.

Glendale Police Officer Moroni Mendez stated that multiple shooters are believed to have been involved. The shooting took place while many people, including families with children, were celebrating the holiday. The restaurant is located directly across from the Glendale Police Department headquarters.

The gunfire started following a confrontation between two groups attending a concert, with 200-300 people outside the restaurant.

“There are three dead people from this incident, and there’s a total of five other victims having sustained some sort of injury from either shrapnel or gunshot wounds,” Mendez informed reporters during a late-night press briefing.

The deceased have been identified as Milo Christopher Suniga, 21, Christopher Juaquin Sproule, 21, and his brother, 17-year-old Damien Anthony Sproule. The injured include two women, aged 20 and 21, two men, aged 20 and 23, and a 16-year-old boy.

Police have detained several individuals for questioning, though no arrests had been made by late Sunday night. Despite the absence of arrests, Officer Mendez assured that there was no ongoing threat to the public. “There are no apprehensions at the moment. There are quite a few people detained, and we’re trying to investigate whether they’re suspects, victims, witnesses, investigative leads,” he stated.

Authorities are exploring the possibility that the shooting involved rival groups. Mendez noted that investigators are still working to determine the relationships among those involved.

He indicated that they are examining “whether they know each other, whether they’re related, whether they’re allies or opponents,” which they are trying to ascertain.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as gunfire erupted during what had been a family-friendly event. A witness told local NBC affiliate KPNX they heard more than 20 shots over 15-20 seconds, a brief pause, and then about 10 more shots.

Bystander Lupe Rodriguez, who was nearby, recounted the aftermath to AZ Family, saying, “I heard people yelling out names. There was a man on the ground, and it didn’t look like he made it. His father was yelling out his name. It was pretty bad.”

Rodriguez said he had to flee to safety. Although shaken by the event, he expressed relief that he and his friends escaped unharmed.

The same witness saw paramedics performing chest compressions on three individuals, while another injured person, who was conscious and breathing, was taken away on a stretcher.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities describing it as an “enormous” scene that will likely take some time to process thoroughly. Police are requesting that anyone with information about the shooting contact the Glendale Police Department at 623-930-3000.

The shooting occurred during a community gathering for Cinco de Mayo, a holiday commemorating the Mexican army’s victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, now widely celebrated as a recognition of Mexican-American culture across the United States.

El Camaron Gigante, which translates to “The Giant Shrimp,” is a well-known local venue known for its seafood and steakhouse offerings.
