Mass Shooting: 7 People Shot on Memorial Day Weekend

Seven individuals, including minors, were injured in a mass shooting at Kate Campbell Park in Jackson, Tennessee, on the evening of May 24, according to local police reports.

Authorities arrived at the scene, located at 2700 North Parkway East, around 8:41 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire involving minors. Upon their arrival, officers found several victims with gunshot wounds dispersed across the park.

One victim was initially in critical condition but has stabilized at a local hospital. The other six victims were treated and subsequently discharged from area medical facilities.

As of May 27, 2025, the Jackson Police Department has not released the identities of those injured in the incident.

Jackson Mayor Scott Conger addressed the public, noting the impact on the community and urging anyone with information to assist investigators. Conger emphasized that while investigators are diligently working, community cooperation is essential.

The shooting remains under investigation, with detectives interviewing witnesses and analyzing evidence from the scene. No arrests have been made, and the motive is yet to be disclosed.

The next day, another shooting took place in Jackson on Old Hickory Boulevard at 3:55 a.m. on May 25, resulting in one fatality and another injury.

The Gun Violence Archive defines mass shootings as events where four or more individuals are shot, not including the shooter. Their data indicates over 110 such incidents have occurred in the U.S. this year, with Jackson’s event being the eighth in Tennessee for 2025.

This year, gun violence has resulted in at least 5,705 deaths nationwide, based on Gun Violence Archive figures. Over 9,879 individuals have sustained injuries. Five mass shootings this year have been classified as mass murders, where four or more victims are killed, excluding the shooter.

Kate Campbell Park, the location of the Tennessee shooting, is a well-known recreational area in Jackson’s northeast. It offers numerous amenities and often hosts community events for families and children.

Investigators are actively gathering evidence and pursuing leads to understand the cause of the violence at the park. The Jackson Police Department stresses the importance of community support in resolving the case and maintaining public safety.

Law enforcement officials are particularly interested in obtaining any video footage captured by witnesses at the time of the incident. A dedicated tip line has been set up for individuals with relevant information.

The incident has raised concerns about youth violence and safety in Jackson, a city with approximately 68,000 residents, situated around 80 miles northeast of Memphis, Tennessee. Community leaders are advocating for increased vigilance and cooperation between residents and law enforcement.
