A 23-year-old man from Maryland was discovered dead on a beach in the Bahamas shortly after arriving for a family vacation. His mother claims he was “beaten to death.” Read more.
Dinari McAlmont, a resident of Bowie, Maryland, traveled with his parents to the Atlantis Paradise Island resort on April 4, 2025. The family had just begun their vacation when the incident occurred.
McAlmont was last observed dining with his parents at the resort. Family accounts indicate he left the dinner table around 9 p.m. to retrieve a jacket and explore the resort’s premises. When he did not return, his parents initiated a search.
Adding to the situation, resort officials reportedly approached McAlmont’s mother, Michelle, claiming they were seeking her son due to an allegation that he had spat on several staff members in a restaurant at the resort.
Unable to track Dinari’s phone, his parents filed a missing persons report. Authorities later found McAlmont’s body on Paradise Island’s shoreline with “no vital life signs” at approximately 5:30 a.m. on April 5, nearly 12 hours after the family arrived in the Bahamas.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force has initiated an investigation into the death, but has yet to classify it as a homicide. Officials are awaiting autopsy results to determine the circumstances surrounding McAlmont’s death.
Michelle McAlmont expressed concern about the condition of her son’s body, which police reportedly showed her in a photo. She described the experience as traumatic, noting that her son was unrecognizable due to his injuries.
“When I looked at the photo they showed me, my son was beaten; he was traumatized,” Michelle McAlmont told Bahamian media. She described seeing froth on her son’s teeth and sand in his hair.
“That tells me they beat my son down in the sand. I need justice for my baby. I need justice,” she added.
According to multiple news sources, McAlmont was a music producer and engineer at Lowcation Studios in Maryland, where he was known professionally as “Diddy.” His colleagues expressed sorrow at his unexpected death.
The grieving mother described a range of emotions following her son’s death, including anger and frustration. She questioned what actions could have been taken to prevent the tragedy.
McAlmont’s parents are now seeking legal representation, specifically an attorney with expertise in international cases, while awaiting the conclusion of the police investigation in the Bahamas.
The Atlantis Paradise Island resort issued a statement expressing condolences and confirming cooperation with authorities.
This incident occurred amid increased safety concerns for American travelers in the Bahamas. On March 30, the U.S. Department of State issued a Level 2 travel advisory for the region, urging Americans to “Exercise Increased Caution.”
The advisory highlights concerns about violent crime, including armed robberies and sexual assaults, especially in Nassau and Freeport. It also notes that boating and jet ski rentals are poorly regulated.
This advisory was already in effect before McAlmont’s death and was not issued in response to this specific event.
As the investigation continues, McAlmont’s family remains in the Bahamas, determined to uncover the truth about the circumstances surrounding their son’s death.
