Elon Musk’s recent gaming session, streamed live from his private jet, resulted in unexpected challenges when the tech CEO was subjected to widespread criticism and decided to end the broadcast prematurely.
On Saturday, April 5, 2025, Musk streamed on X while playing Path of Exile 2 aboard his jet, aiming to perform an “airborne continuity test” of his satellite internet service, Starlink. He intended to highlight both the performance of his internet service and his gaming skills, but instead faced significant criticism from fellow players.
Shortly after the stream began, Musk received numerous negative comments in the game’s chat, including personal attacks. One message stated, “You have no real friends and will die alone,” while another commented, “You ruined the country just like you ruined all your marriages.”
The negative feedback extended to remarks about Musk’s appearance and business ventures. One player asked, “Elon how is it possible to look this dumb and ugly why is ur Tesla company falling apart.” Another gamer posed as Ashley St. Clair, the MAGA influencer who claimed Musk fathered her child, writing: “Elon. It’s me, Ashley St Clair. I have no other means of contacting you so I bought PoE2 early access just for this. Please pay your child support. Thank you Elon.”
Musk attempted to manage the situation by stating, “Anyone spamming the chat will get uhhh,” and used the ignore function on some messages, as reported by the Tribune. Nevertheless, the comments continued.
One player referred to recent comments by Musk’s estranged daughter, Vivian Wilson, asserting that she “was right” about his gaming skills. Wilson had discussed her father’s abilities in a recent interview with Twitch streamer Hasan Piker.
Wilson, who mentioned she and her twin brother helped Musk in the game Overwatch when she was 12, did not hold back regarding her father’s skills. According to Kotaku, she revealed that Musk was a Bronze-ranked Torbjörn main, a low-skill tier in Overwatch.
Despite Musk’s frequent assertions of gaming proficiency, his high Path of Exile 2 score led to skepticism. Many gamers suspected he had someone else “boost” his account, as his characters seemed unusually strong for his claimed playtime.
Skepticism increased after Musk was removed from Path of Exile 2 for “performing too many actions too fast.” When asked about his gaming skills, Musk joked about having a “Chinese driver” for his account called “Elon Ma,” which some perceived as admitting to account boosting.
Prominent voices in the gaming world also commented on the situation. Twitch streamer Asmongold challenged Musk to prove his achievement of level 97 in the game, offering to stream exclusively on X for a year if Musk could display his skills.
During the live session, viewers noted Musk seemed affected by the ongoing critical remarks. He played music by his former partner Grimes, with whom he shares three children, adding to the atmosphere.
As the session continued, Musk faced difficulties with the gameplay. According to Men’s Journal, he was repeatedly defeated by the game’s initial boss fights. After his character’s third defeat, Musk abruptly ended the stream, citing a lost connection.
One viewer remarked that Musk “rage quit” after failing against a tutorial boss in hardcore mode, casting further doubt on his gaming claims.
This gaming incident is one of several public controversies involving Musk. Another involves a recent accusation against a Ubisoft-affiliated content creator, which reportedly led to his daughter’s comments about his gaming abilities.
For Musk, who aims to build a reputation within the gaming community, the livestream’s outcome and subsequent criticism illustrate the difficulties in achieving recognition in a domain that prioritizes genuine skill and dedication over celebrity.
