A bakery owner in Antipolo City, Philippines, was detained following allegations of killing seven colleagues after a birthday celebration on April 22, 2025, held in his honor. Bogart Ramirez, the suspect, is accused of fatally stabbing his co-workers inside the J&B Malunggay Bakery, where they lived and worked.
Police reports indicate that authorities made the discovery early Tuesday morning after a local villager reported hearing cries for help. Upon arrival, officers found seven men with multiple stab wounds in pools of blood inside the locked bakery.
One of the victims was found alive but died from injuries en route to the hospital. The Rizal Police Provincial Office confirmed that all victims were employees residing at the bakery.
Ramirez, reportedly 32 or 35, turned himself in at the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame about two hours after the bodies were found. He stated, “I surrendered because I have nowhere to go anyway. If I leave town, they will still catch me.”
He claimed the incident arose from a conflict with his business partner, one of the deceased. Ramirez alleged that he had overheard the victims’ plans to kill him while he slept to take over the bakery. He said most victims were related to his co-owner.
Ramirez divulged that he provided alcoholic drinks during the birthday celebration before the attack. He admitted using two knives to kill his co-workers while they were reportedly impaired and fighting in the dark.
Police Colonel Felipe Maraggun, provincial police director, expressed skepticism about Ramirez’s account. Investigators are probing the possibility of an accomplice, casting doubt on the suspect’s claim of acting alone.
Authorities are investigating whether the victims were sedated before the attack. A bottle of gin allegedly given by Ramirez to the victims was sent for testing to check for sedatives.
The investigation revealed the victims suffered multiple stab wounds and signs of blunt force trauma. A hammer found at the scene may have been used in conjunction with the knives.
The deceased included two minors employed at the bakery. Authorities have withheld identities pending family notifications, confirming the bakery co-owner was among the dead.
Colonel Maraggun noted the oddity that Ramirez was unharmed despite allegedly engaging seven people. He questioned the self-defense claim, stating the crime scene’s violence seemed excessive given the alleged motive.
Ramirez described how he overpowered the men, asserting they were intoxicated. He stated he surrendered to police immediately after leaving the bakery.
CCTV footage from the bakery’s vicinity is being reviewed to verify Ramirez’s account and investigate the potential involvement of others. Post-mortem examinations are underway to determine the exact causes of death and gather forensic evidence.
Residents expressed shock over the incident, which disrupted the usually calm neighborhood of Barangay Cupang, Antipolo City, east of Manila.
Police are conducting a comprehensive investigation into Ramirez, including his mental health background. He remains in custody as authorities prepare formal charges.
Investigators continue to examine potential motives and angles behind the incident. Police have yet to dismiss business disputes or personal conflicts as contributing factors.
The events at J&B Malunggay Bakery represent one of the most severe crimes in Antipolo City in recent years. Authorities assure the public of their commitment to uncovering the full details of the case.
