Actress Cindyana Santangelo, best known for her role as Sierra Madre on “Married…With Children,” has died at the age of 58. Emergency services responded to a call at her Malibu, California home on Monday evening at approximately 7:15 p.m., according to an advisory from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Santangelo was transported to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead, reports indicate. Officials learned that the actress had recently undergone cosmetic injections in her home prior to her death, though no connection has been confirmed. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is conducting a routine investigation and awaiting autopsy results, though no foul play is suspected at this time.
The versatile performer built a career spanning television, film, and music videos after first stepping into the entertainment spotlight in 1989 when she was cast in Young MC’s music video for “Bust a Move.” The next year, her voice appeared at the start of Jane’s Addiction’s popular track “Stop.” In a Spin Magazine interview, the band’s frontman, Perry Farrell, referred to Santangelo as “the Latin Marilyn Monroe.”
Santangelo’s most recognizable role came on the popular sitcom “Married…With Children,” where she played Sierra Madre, an exotic dancer who worked at The Jiggly Room, a club frequently visited by Ed O’Neill’s character Al Bundy. She expanded her television presence with appearances on medical drama “ER” and crime series “CSI: Miami.”
Her film career began in 1990 with “The Adventures of Ford Fairlane,” where she played a character named Lydia. In 2003, Santangelo worked alongside Harrison Ford and Josh Hartnett in the comedy “Hollywood Homicide.” Her final screen appearance was in 2009’s “The Bo-Bo & Skippy Show.”
Beyond her entertainment career, Santangelo served as the director and chief executive of Mermaids Cove Malibu, an all-women’s luxury sober living facility. Friends described her as having lived a “party rock star life” before embracing sobriety and helping others on similar journeys.
The Manhattan native grew up on the West Coast after leaving New York at a young age. She furthered her education with a scholarship at London’s Lee Strasberg School at age 19. Santangelo also studied at NYU’s Tisch School of Arts and USC’s School of Cinema and Television, building a strong foundation for her diverse career in entertainment.
Just last month, Santangelo celebrated her son Dante’s 20th birthday with a heartfelt Instagram post featuring her two sons. “These two Goonies mean everything so amazing young Men sweethearts smart & Gorgeous,” she wrote alongside a photo of her sons.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Santangelo’s death continues, with particular attention to the cosmetic procedures she reportedly underwent before her medical emergency. “The cause of death is undetermined, and an autopsy is pending,” officials have stated.
Santangelo is survived by her two sons, whom friends described as her “reason for living.”
