TV Reality Star Dies Suddenly at 37

Matthew Byars, a talent manager and Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Potomac” (RHOP) personality, passed away on November 21, 2024 at the age of 37. The Maryland Chief Medical Examiner identified multiple blunt force injuries as the cause of his death, classifying it as a suicide.

Byars became known during the third season of RHOP in 2018 as the assistant and management team member of Karen Huger. In a 2019 interview, Huger discussed her long-standing relationship with Byars, whom she knew from his later teenage years.

Huger mentioned how she often provided support to him during tough times, leading to her nickname as “Mama Karen” in Potomac, Maryland. Huger motivated Byars to continue his education during a challenging phase of his life. After heeding her advice, their professional relationship began to form.

Huger highlighted his strong relationships with other Bravo celebrities and his dynamic, lively personality. She celebrated his accomplishments, influential connections, and their professional and personal synergy. Their collaboration, she observed, resulted in impressive outcomes, both behind the scenes and in front of the camera.

His death led several Bravo celebrities to post tributes on their social media platforms.

Ashley Darby from RHOP used her Instagram Story to reflect on the deep bond between Huger and Matt. She encouraged her followers to offer their support to Huger, reminding them of the importance of looking out for friends, as everyone contends with their personal battles.

Charrisse Jackson-Jordan, a former RHOP cast member, shared a photo on Instagram featuring herself and Matt. Meanwhile, Melissa Gorga from The Real Housewives of New Jersey posted a touching video montage containing moments with Matt. She remembered him for his vibrant personality and portrayed him as a strong young individual. She expressed gratitude for their shared memories and loyalty, and expressed regret over not being able to assist him during his struggles.

Cynthia Bailey from The Real Housewives of Atlanta uploaded a selfie with Matt on Instagram, reminiscing about their long friendship and the numerous memories they created. She expressed profound sorrow and extended condolences to his family and friends, portraying Matt as a person who was loved and valued by many.

Outside of his television appearances, Byars had a varied career in public relations, talent management, real estate, and marketing. He was associated with the Prince Marketing Group, a firm that represents several celebrities.

Byars notably appeared during an important press conference scene in the third season of RHOP, where he supported Huger as she addressed speculations about her finances. He continued to feature in numerous episodes after that.

The Bravo community grieves the loss of a talented individual whose contributions reached beyond the small screen. The entertainment industry will remember Byars’ legacy, as will those who knew him personally.
