FOX Favorite Abruptly Leaves Network

Veteran anchor and business journalist, Neil Cavuto, concluded his 28-year stint with Fox News on December 19, 2024. Despite being offered an extension, Cavuto decided not to renew his contract with the network.

In his final broadcast, Cavuto expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to “report the news, not shout the news, not blast the news.” He also voiced his appreciation for being able to “tell truth to power and fairness to all.”

Following his departure, Fox News issued an official statement lauding Cavuto’s distinguished career: “Neil Cavuto’s illustrious career has been a master class in journalism, and we’re extremely proud of his incredible 28-year run with FOX News Media. His programs have defined business news and set the standard for the entire industry.”

Cavuto, 66, joined Fox News in 1996 and played a pivotal role in the creation of the program “Your World.” He later launched “Cavuto Live” in 2018 and hosted “Cavuto: Coast to Coast” on Fox Business Network.

Former Fox News anchor, Geraldo Rivera, praised Cavuto as a “truth teller” during the “Time of Trump,” highlighting his commitment to unbiased reporting. Cavuto differentiated himself from opinion hosts by prioritizing fact over fiction, particularly in financial coverage.

Cavuto’s dedication to factual reporting led to a notable on-air moment when he interrupted then-White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany over claims about illegal voting. This action drew criticism from fellow anchor Tucker Carlson, who viewed it as media censorship.

Cavuto battled severe health issues throughout his career, including a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 1997 and open-heart surgery in 2016. He also contracted a serious case of COVID-19 and subsequently became a vocal advocate against vaccine denialism. Despite these health challenges, Cavuto maintained his broadcasting duties, earning respect from colleagues and viewers alike.

The departure of Cavuto aligns with larger shifts in cable news networks. These transitions include budget changes impacting key personalities. After 17 years, CNN bid farewell to senior staff member Gloria Borger, and Alisyn Camerota left after ten years. Ties between CNN and veteran journalist Chris Wallace, who reportedly earned $7 million annually, were also severed.

President Donald Trump often criticized Cavuto’s coverage. Following Cavuto’s analysis of Trump’s debate performance in September 2023, Trump posted on Truth Social, “Neil Cavuto, Fox’s Lowest Rated Anchor, is one of the WORST on Television. I actually prefer the losers at CNN and MSDNC.” Upon learning of Cavuto’s exit, Trump posted a tweet expressing his pleasure: “Should have happened a long time ago!”

Following Cavuto’s departure, Fox News Channel announced that Will Cain, a weekend host, would occupy the weekday afternoon slot previously held by Cavuto.

Prior to joining Fox in 2020, Cain served as a lawyer, hosted a radio show, and contributed to ESPN’s television programming. He also worked as an analyst and co-host for CNN and as a host at The Blaze. Cain was a host on the weekend edition of the morning program “Fox & Friends.”

While Cavuto’s program often focused on business topics due to his expertise, Cain’s approach differs. He continues to host his weekday podcast centered on news and sports, and Fox reports that elements of his podcasting style will be incorporated into his TV show, likely featuring extended interviews.

Meanwhile, “Coast to Coast” on Fox Business will be rebranded as “Fox Business Live,” featuring a rotation of anchors until a new program is launched.
